Bumbling Griffins go down swinging in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (1-29-17) — Visiting Grossmont College (1-1) could not maintain a 3-1 second inning lead, nor could the Griffins overcome 5 errors as they fell to Santa Ana College 4-3 in Saturday’s (Jan. 28) non-conference game.

During the second inning, the Griffins took a 3-1 lead. Designated hitter CABOT VAN TIL snapped a 1-1 tie with a 2-run double.

After that, the 12th-ranked Griffins’ offense was virtually silent.

The Dons were trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh when the offense loaded the bases. After a Grossmont fielding error, the Dons were able to push across two runs to take the lead and the win.
