SPRING VALLEY – With wrestling season in full swing, one wrestler to look out for is Kerri Gordon out of Mount Miguel High School.

Gordon, a senior heavyweight for the Matadors, has a spotless record so far, earning gold at the first two tournaments of the season, with all of her victories coming via pin.

On Saturday, Gordon and the Matadors competed in the Valley Center tournament. She was the only Matador to medal, taking first place. Two weeks prior, she dominated her way to a first place finish at the Mount Miguel tournament.

“I felt eager to wrestle and showcase the moves I’ve worked on consistently in practice,” Gordon said about the tournament on Saturday.

As a sophomore, Gordon placed second in CIF which earned her a spot in the state tournament. After placing third last year in CIF and missing out on the state meet, Gordon is working this season to cement herself as the best heavyweight in San Diego.

“My goal for the season is to take first at CIF and to place at state,” Gordon said.

Gordon and the Lady Matadors will next compete on December 15 at Claremont High School in the Lady Chieftains Invitational.
