Vaqueros roll to victory over Hillers

LAKESIDE (4-20-26) – Strong pitching and offense were the perfect recipe for success on Monday afternoon as the El Capitan Vaqueros rolled to an easy 12-1 victory over the visiting Grossmont Foothillers in non-league action.

Freshman Mckenzie Passanisi struck out eight Hillers while only walking one over six innings of work, in which she allowed the one run on five hits in the victory.

Offensively, the El Capitan Vaqueros pounded out 12 hits, which included multiple innings of scoring three runs.

The Vaqueros started the scoring early on, thanks to Ciara Bernardini (1-2, 2 R, SB), who drove in a pair of runs, and Cassidy Sterling (2-4, R, 3 RBI), who grounded out, but in the process a run scored to make it 3-0.

A couple of innings later Sterling would drive in another run, Addison Higuera (3-4, 3 R) would score on a wild pitch and Sterling would come into score on a ground ball out by Quinnley Morehouse (RBI) to extend the lead to 6-1.

Grossmont had scored their only run in the top of the third courtesy of Sahara Roope (2-2, RBI) who drove in Skyler Glover (1-2, R).

Later in the contest, Sofia Simone (2-4, 2 R, RBI, HR) led off the sixth inning with a ball hit to left field in which it played out to an inside the park home run.

Grossmont with the loss has now dropped two games in a row and falls to 9-7 overall.

El Capitan snaps a two game losing streak and with the win improves to 9-8 on the season.
