FOOTBALL
WEEK 2 -- Friday, Sept. 9
JACOB ANAGNOSASTOPOLIS, LB, Santana
Anagnosastopolis collected 12 tackles in limiting Granite Hills to just 191 yards in total offense, as the Sultans registered their second consecutibe shutout in blanking the Eagles.
GAREN DEMERY, RB, Valhalla

Demery, on the heels of a 212-yard rushing effort in the season opener against San Ysidro, added another 198 yards to led the Norsemen past Chula Vista. Valhalla accumulated 480 total yards to best the Spartans and register its second straight road victory.

WEEK 1 ­ Friday, Sept. 2
LAWRENCE WALKER, RB, Christian

Walker, a sophomore, carried nine times for 218 yards and a pair of touchdowns, helping the Patriots offense to score 48 unanswered points in a 48-6 crushing of Vincent Memorial. The yardage total was the best individual make by any San Diego Section back during the first week of the 2005 season.

BRANDON REAS, DL, Helix
Reas registered three quarterback sacks, as the Highlanders defense overwhelmed Patrick Henry in a 51-7 decision. The Helix defense also registered a safety when a poor snap sailed over the punter's head and through the end zone.

BASEBALL
Week 11 (May 16-20)
SEAN O'SULLIVAN, P-3B, Valhalla

O'Sullivan smacked two homers in both regular-season contests last week, lifting the Norsemen to a share of the Grossmont South League title. O⤙Sullivan went deep to centerfield twice in a 9-2 triumph over Steele Canyon, then added two more blasts while also pitching a one-hitter at Mount Miguel. The homers moved the senior among the top home run hitters in Grossmont Conference and CIF-San Diego Section history.


SOFTBALL
Week 11 (May 16-20)
SHAE BASS, P, Santana


Bass tossed consecutive 6-hit shutouts against the Sultans' top league opponents, giving the school its first Grossmont North League championship in 11 years. On Monday, Bass shutout Grossmont to keep Santana's pennant hopes alive, then the sophomore went all 8 innings and struck out nine batters in a 1-0 verdict over West Hills to effectively catch the Wolf Pack and claim a share of the crown. Behind Bass, Santana (25-4 overall) is the top seed for the CIF Division III softball playoffs.

BASEBALL
Week 10 (May 9-14)
GRIFF ERICKSON
, DH, El Capitan
Erickson sparked the Vaqueros to three consecutive victories to clinch the Grossmont North League crown. Against Santana, the designated hitter batted 2-for-3 and drove in five runs to top Santana, then Erickson belted an early 2-run homer to jumpstart the Vaqueros to a title-clinching 5-4 road triumph at Grossmont.

 

SOFTBALL
Week 10 (May 9-14)
CELINA CRUZ, DH/P, El Capitan

Cruz hit safely in all four games last week, including basehits against some of the best pitching in the Grossmont North League, helping the Vaqueros reach double-digits in victories for the season. Included were hits in both games of a doubleheader against West Hills, a 2-for-2 outing against Santana, then capping the week with a 3-for-5 performance against El Cajon Valley to finish 8-for-13 on the week.

WEEK 9 (May 2-7)
JASSON KSIAZEK
, SS, El Capitan
The Vaqueros shortstop batted 4-for-10 for the week, registering a key RBI in each of the team´s three victories last week to vault El Capitan to the No. 10 slot in the county rankings. Included was a double in a 10-0 pasting of West Hills to sweep the two-game series, then a 2-for-4 outing in a narrow decision over El Cajon Valley. For the season, Ksiazek is now ranked sixth in the East County with a .443 batting average.
SOFTBALL
WEEK 9 (May 2-7)
CHARNEL ZETSCH
, P-1B, Granite Hills
Zetsch batted 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, then pitched 2.2 innings of no-hit relief to get the save in a victory over Mount Miguel. Two days later, the senior slugged a grand slam and pitched four innings of 1-hit ball in downing Monte Vista, as the Eagles are now 8-2-1 in their previous 11 contests to grab a firm hold of second place in the Grossmont South League.

Week 8 (Apr. 25-30)
NICK MONETTE
, C, Granite Hills
Monette produced the most prolific offensive display of average and power by an East County batter this season, going 6-for-12 with three homers and six RBI for the 4th-ranked Eagles last week. Included was a two-run homer to break open a tie ballgame, allowing Granite Hills to snap Valhalla´s 29-game league winning streak, then Monette slugged a pair of homers to down Mount Miguel.
SOFTBALL
Week 8 (Apr. 25-30)
MARA THORNTON
, P, West Hills
Thornton tossed a 3-hit shutout at defending CIF Division III champion Santana, giving the Wolf Pack sole possession of first place in the Grossmont North League in a battle of undefeated teams in league play. Thornton struck out eight Sultans and walked just two, raising her season record to 9-2, as West Hills remains among the top-ranked teams in the county behind her pitching.

 
 

BASEBALL
Week 7 (Apr. 18-23)
DONNIE SNOW
, P-DH, Grossmont
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior batted .571 as the Foothillers completed a four-game sweep. More than that, though, Snow included 5 home runs among his 8 hits, giving him 13 round-trippers for the season. Snow's long-ball total ties the Grossmont single season record shared by two others. Snow's 14 RBI during the week hoisted his RBI count to 39. He is tied with Rancho Bernardo's John Drennen for the county lead in home runs (13) and RBI (39). For good measure, Snow pitched 5 innings and logged his 3rd win.
 
SOFTBALL
Week 7 (Apr. 18-23)
KIMMI HAYDEN
, C-DP, Valhalla
Hayden capped a perfect week at the plate by announcing she will continue her softball career at the University of Memphis next season. In leading the Norsemen to the top of the Grossmont South League standings, Hayden batted 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles in a victory over Steele Canyon, then went 1-for-1 with an RBI double and a run scored as the designated player in a decision over Mount Miguel.

WEEK 6 (Apr. 11-16)
BASEBALL
NIK GARCIA, 1B/P, El Capitan

Garcia equaled a 24-year old El Capitan single-game record with eight RBI against Bonita Vista, finishing the week going 6-for-15 (.400) with 12 RBI. Five of the hits went for doubles, as the Vaqueros reached the championship final of the Grossmont North/South Tournament. Garcia also went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in a 12-4 pasting of Valhalla to gain its finals berth.
SOFTBALL
ASHLEY MILLER, SS, Monte Vista

Miller, the Monarchs' leadoff batter, registered hits in all four contests last week to extend her hitting streak to five games. For the week, she batted an even .500 (6-for-12) with five RBI. Miller also stole a pair of bases, helping Monte Vista (11-11) to reach the .500 plateau.

WEEK 5 (Apr. 4-10)
BASEBALL
KELLEN ROSSITTO
, 1B, Christian

Rossitto, better known for his exploits on the Patriots football team, is now carrying the Diamond Pats after collecting hits in all four ballgames last week to extend his hitting streak to an East County-best 11 consecutive contests. Included was a five-RBI performance which featured a 2-run triple and a 3-run triple in the finale of a 3-game trip to Florida, raising his batting average to .390 for the season.

SOFTBALL
SAMANTHA BEASLEY
, P/OF, Steele Canyon
Beasley, a right-handed pitcher who bats lefty, did double-duty for the Cougars, leading them to the top of the Grossmont North/South Tournament standings. She collected a pair of pitching victories, then did not allow an earned run in an extra-innings loss to Santana. For the week, Beasley, a sophomore, tossed 25 full innings without allowing an earned run, striking out 19 batters. She also batted a cool .500 for the week (5-for-10).

 
WEEK 4 (Mar. 28-Apr. 2)
BASEBALL
DONNIE ANDERSON, P, Granite Hills

The veteran member of a basically young pitching staff, the senior right-hander hurled a 2-hitter and struck out 4 as the Eagles completed a sweep of a Grossmont South League doubleheader from Helix. Anderson's 72-pitch effort resulted in a 3-2 win for the Eagles. It raised his season mark to 3-0. Anderson also collected his first hit and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Week 4 (Mar. 28-Apr 2)
SOFTBALL
KASEY MYTINGER, RF, West Hills

Mytinger clubbed a pair of two-run homers Thursday (Mar. 31), powering West Hills to a 10-1 romp over visiting Serra. For the contest, the senior rocked Q's' pitching for five RBI in a 3-for-3 performance, also adding a run-scoring single. Mytinger now owns four homers for the season, halfway to the all-time East County record of eight, while the Wolf Pack owns one of the top records in the San Diego Section at 10-1 overall entering Grossmont North-South Tournament play.

WEEK 3 (Mar. 21-27)
BASEBALL
Jeff Woods, P, Santana

Woods joined one of the most prestigious lists in San Diego Section history by becoming the ninth pitcher in 45 years to throw a perfect game. Unlike some of the others, Woods' effort was a seven-inning effort to defeat Mojave High, 2-0, in the semifinals of the Blazers SportCo Spring Bash in Las Vegas. Woods struck out 12, coaxed eight other batters to groundout, then caught a popup as Mojave never hit the ball out of the infield. In addition, Woods collected the game-winning RBI with a sacrifice fly in the 2nd inning. The senior right-hander's perfect game was the sixth in Grossmont Conference annuals.

WEEK 3 (Mar. 21-27)
SOFTBALL
Alyssa Parker, 3b, Monte Vista

Parker, a junior third-baseman, powered the Monarchs to the consolation championship of the Fred Davison Memorial softball tournament in Las Vegas. Following a slow start after jamming her thumb in the second game of the event, Parker capped the team's three-game winning streak by slugging a homer and driving home four runs against Taft in the finale. Earlier, after being moved to first base due to the injury, Parker batted 2-for-3 against Carson, then scored three times in a semifinal-round victory over Liberty. In the final, Parker insisted on moving back to third, where she posted seven assists and a pair of put-outs, including a snag of a linedrive from her knees in the ninth inning to help preserve the victory.


WEEK 2 (Mar. 14-19)
BASEBALL
THOMAS ADAMS, P, Grossmont

Adams tossed a pair of shutout innings to register the save, as Grossmont rallied to top Montgomery, 8-5, to take the title game of the Foothiller-Aztec Tournament. He allowed just one hit during the stint, then came up with his own RBI basehit to assist in the rally. Earlier in the tournament, Adams started against Castle Park, going six strong innings without yielding an earned run.

SOFTBALL
Lacey Wilson, P, Valhalla

Wilson tossed a pair of 4-hitters over consecutive games, helping Valhalla sweep a pair of top-flight opponents to capture the Cougar Classic at Kit Carson Park. In Monday's semifinals, she struck out seven to defeat Rancho Bernardo, 3-1, then tossed a shutout over the final four innings of the championship contest to allow the Norsemen to rally for a 3-2 triumph over Rancho Buena Vista.


WEEK 1 (Mar. 7-13)
BASEBALL
Joe Inzone, LHP, Junior, Steele Canyon

Inzone earn his first varsity victory with both his arm and the bat. While pitching five strong innings, including just one hit and an unearned run through four frames in a 13-5 triumph over Sweetwater, Inzone also slugged three doubles for four RBI. For the week he was 6-for-10 with 5 RBI.

WEEK 1 (Mar. 7-13)
SOFTBALL
Melissa Owens, RHP, Senior, Christian

Owens was named MVP of the Avalon Tournament on Catalina Island while pitching the Patriots (6-0) to the event championship. Included was a 2-hit shutout of Village Christian in the title game, plus three other shutout victories, all by no-hitters including two on Fri., Mar. 11. Prior to the tournament, she also blanked Mission Bay in a non-league game. For the season, Owens has yielded just two unearned runs in 32 innings, including 31 consecutive scoreless frames.
