Week 14 (Dec. 3-4)
JAKE TAUANUU, RB/LB, Helix
Tauanu'u bounced to the outside with a handoff and raced 59 yards
for his 12th touchdown of the season, giving Helix a 10-3 lead
over ancient rival Grossmont in the SDCIF Division II semifinals.
He finished with 81 yards on five carries. On defense he registered
a pair of fumble recoveries, forced a fumble and collected five
tackles.
CARLOS ROJAS, LB, Helix
The 5-foot-8, 175 linebacker led the Highlanders with 14 tackles
and a devastating blindside sack of Grossmont quarterback Tyler
Barbour in the SDCIF Division II Semifinals. Helix advanced to
the championship game with a 23-17 overtime win over the Foothillers.
CLINTON SNYDER, TE/DE, Monte Vista
Snyder, an East County player of the year finalist, nearly carried
the Monarchs to a come-from-behind victory in the CIF Division
III semifinals against Valley Center. At tight end, he caught
a touchdown pass to give the top-seeds an early lead, then powered
the defense with 13 tackles, including a quarterback sack.
Week 12 (Nov. 26)
JEFF
WATERS, RB, Grossmont
Waters, a junior tailback rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns
in the opening 13 minutes to mount a 20-0 lead, powering the Foothillers
to an upset of West Hills in Friday's (Nov. 26) quarterfinals
of the SDCIF Division II playoffs. Waters finished with 191 yards
on 29 carries, scoring on runs of 8, 7 and 19 yards.
DARRELL
MACK, RB, Monte Vista
Mack, San Diego County's leading rusher, only added to his totals
in lifting the top-ranked Monarchs past San Marcos in the quarterfinals
of the SDCIF Division III playoffs on Friday (Nov. 26). Mack shredded
the Knights for 285 yards and four touchdowns on just 20 carries,
giving him the section rushing lead with 2,311 yards and 26 scores.
WEEK 12 (Nov. 19)
ROSS EPPERSON, QB, Steele Canyon
Epperson, the Cougars' junior quarterback, completed 7-of-11 passes
for 172 yards, including a school-record 75-yard connection to
Wes Davis, leading Steele Canyon to a 42-15 pasting of Ramona
in the opening round of the SDCIF Division II playoffs. Epperson's
yardage total is the second-most prolific performance in the school's
brief three-year history.
RYAN GLAZER, DL, Grossmont
Glazer posted three of the Foothillers' eight quarterback sacks
in racing past visiting Hoover, 34-14, in a first-round contest
of the SDCIF Division II playoffs. It was Grossmont's first victory
over the Cardinals since 1950, as Glazer & Co. held Hoover
to negative rushing yards for the contest.
