EL CAJON - Steele Canyon junior guard RICHIE WILLIAMS has been named the EastCountySports.com Boys Basketball Player of the Year. The Cougars' floor general averaged 19 points, 4.8 assists, 4.8 steals and 6.6 steals per game as Steele Canyon won the Grossmont South League and the SDCIF Division III championships in just their second varsity season.
 
Christian High freshman TYRONE SHELLEY earned EastCountySports.com Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 28.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and registering an East County high 88 blocks.
 
Steele Canyon's BRAD LEAF was tabbed the EastCountySports.com Boys Basketball Coach of the Year. In his two varsity seasons, the Cougars posted a 41-21 record.
 
In special recognition, Grossmont High four-year varsity performer TYLER VICKERS earned All-EastCountySports.com first team honors for the second season in a row after gaining third-team honors as sophomore. The 6-foot-6 Vickers scored 1,571 career points while averaging 8.3 rebounds per game.

EL CAJON - Sophomore ALLISON DUFFY of El Capitan has been named the EastCountySports.com 2004 All-East County Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Not bad for a stellar player who still has her best years ahead. The 6-foot-1 Duffy is no fluke. The nimble Duffy led East County scorers with a 23.5 points and 13.2 rebounds  per game.
 
Mount Miguel senior KAYLA HENRY (15.2 ppg) and Duffy were joined on the first five by El Capitan's HEATHER MOLZEN (15.7 ppg, 10.8 rpg), Santana's MARGEAUX BASS (7.4 ppg, 6.6 apg) and GENEVIEVE COSTELLO (11.3 ppg)of Mount Miguel.
 
Granite Hills freshman MORGAN SABALA was tabbed the EastCountySports.com Newcomer of the Year.
 
Mount Miguel's ROBBIE SANDOVAL was named EastCountySports.com East County Coach of the Year after leading the Matadors to their fourth straight Grossmont South League championship and second consecutive SDCIF Division II title.
