Southern Conference
Mountain Empire 8, at Bayfront Charter 6
CHULA VISTA — Mountain Empire junior Aviana Woodley recorded the game-winning safety in the fourth quarter, propelling the RedHawks to a narrow 8-6 victory over host Bayfront Charter in Tuesday’s (Oct. 6) girls flag football contest at Mueller Charter School.
Woodley, a defensive back, became only the second East County player to record a tie-breaking, fourth-quarter safety for the winning points.
The other was Irelyn Retzloff of West Hills. In 2025, Retzloff — then a 5-foot-1 senior — registered her only career varsity points in any sport by reaching an El Cajon Valley quarterback in the end zone with just under two minutes remaining. The safety lifted the Wolf Pack to a 20-18 victory over the host Braves.
Bayfront Charter (1-9 overall) raced to a 6-0 lead on its opening drive, but Mountain Empire (2-6) pulled even on its first possession of the second half.
The score remained tied until Woodley delivered the decisive defensive play during the fourth quarter.
Non-League
El Cajon Valley 19, at Hoover 14
CITY HEIGHTS — El Cajon Valley quarterback Natalie Flores, who earlier fired a 55-yard touchdown pass to McKinley Morgan, threw her second scoring pass during the fourth quarter to lift the Braves to a 19-14 comeback victory over host Hoover in Tuesday’s (Oct. 6) non-league contest.
Flores passed for 193 yards, her fourth-highest total of the season, while matching her best yards-per-completion average since taking over as the Braves’ starting quarterback.
Meanwhile, Morgan led all receivers with six receptions for 126 yards. It marked her first career 100-yard receiving performance, while her six catches fell one short of her career high.
Santana 51, Monte Vista 6
SANTEE — The Santana Sultans established a school scoring record by mounting 51 points in a one-sided non-league victory over Monte Vista.
The Sultans (6-7 overall) broke the previous program mark set in a 45-20 victory over Steele Canyon in 2024.
Because Monte Vista has been removed from the Grossmont Valley League standings — no reason has been announced by conference officials — the result was classified as a non-league contest.
Santana remains 2-1 at the midway point of GVL play, sharing first place with West Hills. The teams meet Thursday at Santee Community Stadium.
Grossmont Hills League
Helix 13, Steele Canyon 0
LA MESA — The Helix defense limited visiting Steele Canyon to fewer than 100 yards of total offense, posting a 13-0 shutout of the Cougars at Benton Hart Stadium.
The Scotties (12-1 overall), ranked second in the CIF San Diego Section, completed the first round of Grossmont Hills League play with a perfect 4-0 record, one full game ahead of idle Granite Hills.
The victory was also the first in program history for Helix against the Women of Steele.
Steele Canyon (7-9) suffered its fifth shutout loss of the season, including two straight and three in its past five contests.

FLETCHER HILLS — Grossmont held off El Capitan, 25-19, in Grossmont Hills League action Tuesday (Oct. 6).
