SECTION 7 PLAYOFFS: SWEETWATER VALLEY ROLLS PAST FLETCHER HILLS, 10-0
CLAIREMONT — San Diego County’s top-rated Little League team continued its march toward the Southern California tournament on Sunday as District 42 champion Sweetwater Valley defeated District 41 champion Fletcher Hills, 10-0 in four innings, in a Section 7 playoff game decided by the 10-run rule at Cadman Park on Saturday.
Sweetwater Valley wasted little time taking control offensively.
Noah Kirk opened the scoring in the first inning after coming home on a base hit through the left side by Templeton Tran, giving Sweetwater Valley a 1-0 lead.
A short time later, Leo Gonzalez delivered with a bloop single to center field, driving in Jesus Cuadra as the District 42 champions continued to build their advantage.
The offense kept producing throughout the game while the Sweetwater Valley pitching, led by Kirk, held the District 41 champions in check, combining for the shutout victory in a run-rule-shortened game.

Alejandro Kirk, of the Toronto Blue Jays, with nephew Noah Kirk, of the Sweetwater Valley Little League 10-12 All-Stars.
Kirk is the nephew of Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk, who hails from Tijuana and played at South Chula Vista Pony.
Noah Kirk has emerged as one of the county’s most highly regarded 12-year-old players and again played a key role in Sunday’s victory, scoring the game’s first run and contributing to the offensive attack.
Noah Kirk started and went three innings, allowing one hit, while striking out six.
Sweetwater Valley’s Isaac Ramirez delivered a hitless fourth, striking out two, to finish off the Hillers.
After the game, Kirk credited the team’s complete performance.
“Pretty good time. The team came up with the W, and we’re advancing, facing Encanto. The pitching, hitting, everyone came up strong. We started pitching, closing the game. Everyone with the clutch hits. Everyone came up clutch, and we played like a team. Everyone was cheering for each other.”
For Fletcher Hills, the loss moves them into the loser’s bracket, where they were scheduled to face Imperial, which lost 3-1 to Encanto also on Saturday, here on Monday evening.
Sweetwater Valley now advances deeper into the Section 7 tournament, where a matchup with Encanto will take place here on Tuesday evening. The District 42 champions remain the favorites to earn a berth in the Southern California Divisional Tournament.
