Grossmont Valley League

EL CAJON VALLEY 40, SANTANA 20

EL CAJON — The up-and-down season for the El Cajon Valley Braves appears to be concluding on a major upswing.

The Braves erupted for 40 points, finishing one short of the school record established in a 41-7 season-opening victory over San Diego-Southwest.

In addition, the triumph came against an opponent that entered the week only one-half game out of the Grossmont Valley League lead. The victory vaulted El Cajon Valley into second place at 4-2 in league play and 10-7 overall.

With a victory over Monte Vista in Thursday’s home finale, the Braves can clinch a winning record for the season.

El Cajon Valley also became the first team in Grossmont Conference history to have three different players—Natalie Flores, Kaylanii Moore and Skye Ferris—throw touchdown passes in the same game.

Flores completed all nine of her passes for 176 yards, matching the school record with a perfect completion percentage. Her predecessor established the program mark for consecutive completions by going 19-for-19 last season.

Meanwhile, Moore rushed for 112 yards on only five carries, highlighted by a 60-yard burst.

Ferris collected four receptions for 99 yards, including a 45-yard completion from Flores.

Santana, coming off Monday’s 38-14 non-league victory over Escondido, fell to 7-9 overall and 3-3 in GVL play.

Elsewhere in the GVL: West Hills defeated Monte Vista, 18-6. The Wolf Pack’s magic number to clinch the league championship is one.

Southern Conference

LIBERTY CHARTER 30, MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 12

ALPINE — Liberty Charter clinched second place in the Southern Conference, but there was also encouraging news for visiting Mountain Empire.

The RedHawks’ offense, which struggled early during the program’s inaugural season, produced its third-highest scoring output of the year in the Lions’ home game at Joan MacQueen Middle School.

Senior quarterback Elysa Cisneros rushed for one touchdown, then connected with her younger sister, sophomore Yosellin Cisneros, for another score.

Yosellin Cisneros finished with five receptions for 37 yards and one touchdown.

No individual statistics were reported for Liberty Charter.
