Granite Hills 20, Poway 0

EL CAJON — Granite Hills running back Brooklyn Spencer rushed for a game-high 90 yards, while quarterback Taylor Nash added 75 rushing yards, leading the Eagles’ romp over the Poway Titans at Valley Stadium on Thursday (Sept. 10).

Nash accounted for all three Eagles touchdowns, rushing for the first score before adding a pair of TD passes.

Both scoring passes went to Emily Fong, who paced the Eagles with five receptions for 30 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown catch.

Meanwhile, the defense was powered by junior Siena Healy (five flag pulls) and sophomore Presley San Filippo (four).

A pair of Granite Hills seniors — Olivia Cirar and Ariana Parent — both snagged interceptions in handing Poway (5-3) its first shutout loss in school history.

Granite Hills (4-3 overall) posted its second shutout of the campaign. The Eagles have captured three straight ballgames and four of their past five outings to climb above the .500 plateau.

Santana 6, Kearny 0

SANTEE — Santana receiver Gabby Sneddon hauled in a 38-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ava Darling moments into the second half, with the score proving to be just enough in the Sultans’ 6-0 triumph over the visiting Kearny Komets in a non-league contest held at Santee Community Stadium on Thursday (Sept. 10).

On the first play after Santana crossed into Kearny territory, Darling let loose and found Sneddon for the game’s lone score.

Sneddon led the Sultans with 64 receiving yards, while Breezy Udvarhelyi paced the team with four receptions. Many were short catches that gained important first downs.

Fueling the defense in the shutout was junior linebacker Kaylin Davis, the runaway leader with eight flag pulls.

Finishing second with four stops apiece were Kaylah Sanchez, Ava Brehm and Udvarhelyi. Sneddon also collected an interception.

Santana (3-3) will host Oceanside on Saturday (Sept. 12) at 10:15 a.m.

Ramona 30, El Capitan 14

RAMONA — The Ramona Bulldogs, leaders of the Palomar League, broke open a close game by outscoring El Capitan 12-0 in the second half to defeat the visiting Vaqueros.

Bulldogs quarterback Elisa Gaines burned El Capitan with four touchdown passes, including a pair to receiver Reese Blakey. The longest covered a massive 62 yards — the school’s longest play from scrimmage this season.

Despite allowing several big plays, El Capitan held the advantage in time of possession. Ramona linebacker Kynzie King paced the Bulldogs with 11 flag pulls.

In addition, Annabelle Bash and Remingtyn Bryant each added eight stops, while five Ramona defenders recorded an interception.

Ramona hits the road twice next week, traveling to Escondido and Granite Hills.

El Capitan did not report individual statistics.

Monte Vista 19, Orange Glen 13

ESCONDIDO — After securing just a single victory during its debut campaign last season, Monte Vista is making good on a much more reasonable schedule in 2026.

The Monarchs ended a mild losing streak to post their second triumph of the season, dropping the host Orange Glen Patriots, 19-13, in Thursday’s (Sept. 10) non-league girls flag football contest in south Escondido.

Monte Vista (2-4 overall) did not report individual statistics or highlights. The ballclub has a strong opportunity to extend its winning streak to three next week when it hosts Sage Creek and Vista — clubs with a combined mark of just 4-12 — at Monarch Stadium.

Steele Canyon 25, Mater Dei Catholic 20

JAMUL — Trailing 20-13 through three periods, the Steele Canyon Cougars scored 12 unanswered points in the final quarter to upend Mater Dei Catholic, 25-20, in Thursday’s (Sept. 10) non-league girls flag football contest.

The visiting Crusaders, the 2024 CIF San Diego Section Division III champions, suffered just their second loss of the season to fall to 4-2 overall.

The Cougars, who defeated an opponent with a winning record for the first time this season, regained the .500 plateau with a 5-5 record.

Steele Canyon did not report individual statistics or game highlights.

Helix 32, Eastlake 0

LA MESA — The Helix Highlanders remained perfect through four starts after blanking the Eastlake Titans, 32-0, at Benton Hart Stadium.

The shutout was the second straight for the Scotties, who have outscored their four opponents by a combined count of 140-12.

On Saturday (Sept. 12), Helix hits the road to meet Classical Academy of Oceanside at 3:30 p.m. The Caimans captured the first CIF San Diego Section Division II championship after blitzing Cathedral Catholic, 50-0, in the most lopsided section title game in history.

Eastlake (3-5) was shut out for the fourth time this season, but this was its widest margin. The others, in order, were 2-0 against El Capitan, 12-0 against Steele Canyon and 6-0 in overtime against Del Norte.

Helix did not report individual statistics or game highlights.

Grossmont 30, El Cajon Valley 6

EL CAJON — There is something commonly used by colleges called “scheduling dynamics,” in which teams face certain opponents in a particular order to gain momentum and give younger ballclubs a chance to develop.

Unfortunately for El Cajon Valley, such scheduling luck disappeared because of a midseason scrimmage in which the referees failed to arrive. The game was suddenly made up days later, taking away valuable practice time. Another game was canceled when Mar Vista was forced to forfeit because it lacked enough players to safely conduct the contest.

Grossmont took full advantage, posting a surprisingly easy 30-6 victory over the host Braves at Priest Field.

The Foothillers (4-3) have won two straight to again post a winning record heading into a rare afternoon affair Saturday (Sept. 12), when they host San Pasqual at Lt. Mitchell Memorial Field at 1:45 p.m.

Neither Grossmont nor El Cajon Valley (5-3) reported individual statistics or game highlights.

West Hills 12, Canyon Hills 6

TIERRASANTA — West Hills, which yielded a combined 63 points in its two previous losses, moved back to the .500 mark at 2-2 overall after defeating the host Canyon Hills Rattlers on Thursday (Sept. 10).

The Wolf Pack remain undefeated in two road starts but are winless in two home contests. They next entertain El Capitan on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

West Hills did not report individual statistics or game highlights.

Bayfront 7, Mountain Empire 2

BUCKMAN SPRINGS — Mountain Empire linebacker Avianna Woodley established an East County record with six quarterback sacks, but the Bayfront Sharks collected the game’s lone touchdown for a 7-2 non-league decision over the host RedHawks.

At least Mountain Empire (0-2) reached the scoreboard after being blanked in its debut contest. Freshman Abilene Walker recorded the school’s first-ever points on a two-point play, although the type of scoring play was not reported.

Up next for the RedHawks is a road trip to meet the Falcons of Mabel O’Farrell Charter — located a half-mile west of Morse High School — on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
