Griffins on display to Major Leagues

COMPTON — Unlike promises made by low-erlevel coaches throughout San Diego County, Grossmont College makes it a point to travel to locations where actualy scouts from Major League Baseball– not some local “bird-dog” — can actually see their players for possible selection in the MLB Amateur Draft.
Where does one go to be seen? The MLB Baseball Academy down the street from Compton College, who the Griffins met in Tuesday’s (Feb. 12) non-conference contest.
While Grossmont has shuffled its batting order and roster to allow everyone to play in a slow 1-5 start to th season, the players which the coaching staff believe are the best took the field against the Tartarsm coming through with an impressive 4-1 triumph.
Grossmont may only be 2-6 with the decision, but Pacific COast Athletic Conference opponents now know that the Griffins can no longer be tkaen lightly.
All but three players registered at least one run or an RBI, led by catcher Juan Nunez, who stroked a two-run double to open the swcoring in the fourth inning.
Coming home on the drive to left-center field were center fielder Hayden Tregidga and and designated hitter Spencer Davis.

Meanwhile, Griffins starting pitcher Johnny Nuanez carried a shutout into the 9th inning.He struck out eight Compton batters, but once the one Tartaras batter who walked would score.
Closer Sebastian Granados registered the final out toon a shallow fly ball to left field collect the save.
Grossmont is slated to open a 4-game homestand on Thursday against L.A. Mission College, but beware of possible rain. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. at Noel Micklesen Field.
