LAKESIDE (6-25-15) — Granite Hills graduate JORDAN VERDON has committed to San Diego State University to play baseball for the Aztecs.

On a special day to Verdon and his family, he made the commitment to the Aztecs’ late coach Tony Gwynn personally.

Verdon, drafted by the Mets, has been in discussions with them, but indicated he will probably honor his commitment to San Diego State unless something new happens. Verdon was the 24th round draft pick of the Mets, and the 719th pick overall.

During his senior season Verdon batted .378 for the Eagles in 98 at-bats. He slugged 5 home runs, logged 2 triples, 8 doubles, and 19 RBI.
