CARSON – After allowing a goal in the first 90 seconds, the San Diego Christian women’s soccer team scored 27 minutes later and held off  Marymount California to a 1-1 tie.

Katherine Koury registered a school-record 20 saves, beating the previous mark of 17 from Kylie Garcilaso in 2009.

With the tie, the Hawks are now 2-1-1 on the season. The Mariners sit at 1-1-1.

The first shot the Mariners took beat Koury to give them the 1-0 lead.

Vivian Oray leveled the game in the 28th minute with her first goal of the season. With 1:41 remaining in the first half, Oray looked to give the Hawks the lead but her attempt was saved as both teams went into the break tied at 1-1.

Katherine Day looked to mirror the Mariners in the first half but her shot 90 seconds into the second half went wide. Both teams had plenty of chances to break the tie but none would deliver the knockout shot as they headed to overtime.

Allie Leon‘s shot 30 seconds into the first OT was saved as each team tallied three shots in the first extra frame.

The second OT period was quiet, with only one shot recorded as fatigued set in on the warm day.

Oray led the charge with six shots, five of them on goal.

The Hawks will be back home to host Soka University on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
