Lawrence-led Toreros rally against Marist, SC’s Dickens

EL CAJON (10-4-15) — Steele Canyon graduate LAWRENCE DICKENS enjoyed a fruitful homecoming when the sophomore receiver brought his Marist College Red Foxes to the University of San Diego’s Alcala Park on Saturday (Oct. 3).

Dickens caught 3 passes for 76 yards, including touchdowns of 63 and 8 yards but the Red Foxes still fell short to the Toreros 30-27.

For five games this season Dickens has 11 catches for 215 yards, which is an average of 19.5.

A year ago the former Cougar averaged 43.2 yards per kickoff returns.

On the winning side, Toreros’ freshman quarterback ANTHONY LAWRENCE complete 23 of 35 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown. He also scored on a 5-yard run against Marist.

Milo

El Cajon Valley High product VIRNEL MOON and Helix’s defensive tackle WILLIAM MILO helped the Colorado Mesa Division II Mavericks bury Black Hills State 48-7.

Moon, a sophomore receiver, caught 5 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown.

Milo, a 5-10, 290-pound tackle, recorded 4 tackles, 2 for losses.

BYU junior wide receiver NICK KURTZ (Valhalla/Grossmont College) caught 5 passes for 52 yards in the Cougars 30-13 romp over UConn.

Goodloe records an interception Saturday.

Steele Canyon graduate XAVIER GOODLOE is making waves at Western New Mexico University. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back logged 5 tackles and a sack in the Mustangs 34-14 loss to Fort Lewis State.

Sophomore defensive back KEITH RODGERS (Valhalla) logged 4 tackles and intercepted a pass to lead the University of Jamestown Jimmies to a 28-21 win over Presentation College of Aberdeen, South Dakota. Rodgers has 3 interceptions in five games this season and 5 in 15 career starts.

Valhalla had a definite flavor in Humboldt State Lumberjack’s 59-10 victory over the S.D. School of Mines Hardrockers.

JOHN TODD had 3 catches for 54 yards and a touchdown in a game played at Arcata’s Redwood Bowl. Earlier he caught a 69-yard TD pass in the Lumberjack’s romp over Dixie State.

On the losing end of the coin was Valhalla/Grossmont College speedster KEVIN MILLS. Mills caught 6 passes for 35 yards for the Hardrockers.

Helix graduate JABRION BURNSIDE had 7 tackles for Azusa Pacific in a 24-21 loss to Central Washington.

Santana graduate BRAD CORNISH nailed field goals of 35 and 23 yards as well as 2-for-2 PATs as Sacramento State lost to Northern Colorado 27-20.
