SANTEE (12-8-15) — The Santana Sultans looked to extend their winning streak as they hosted the University City Centurions in a Game on Challenge contest. Unfortunately they came up on the short end of the stick as they dropped the contest 42-39.

Things didn’t look good early on for the Sultans as they couldn’t buy a basket in the first quarter, trailing 10-2. However they were able to get back into the game as they rolled up 13 points in the second quarter and held the Centurions to 8 points to only trail 18-15 at the break.

Despite having no player score in double digits, as FRANKIE GUTIERREZ and MITCHELL MILLER led with 8 points apiece, the Sultans were able to stay in the contest as they outscored the Centurions in the third period 18-14.

Unfortunately their scoring output sputtered in the final stanza as they shot 1-17 from the field in the fourth quarter.  University City couldn’t take advantage of this and allowed Santana to stay close and actually have a chance to tie the game at the end. Unfortunately the three-point attempts from the Sultans didn’t fall as the Buzzer sounded.

Santana: Frankie Gutierrez 8 (8 reb, 5 ast, 2 stl), Mitchell Miller 8 (3 reb, 1 ast), Trent Baugh 6 (6 reb), Sage Hicks 5 (5 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl, 4 blk), Daulton Barry 4 (1 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl), Noah Nunez 4 (2 reb), Cooper Mendoza 2 (2 pts, 1 reb, 1 stl), John Bobof (3 rebs)
