EL CAJON (12-12-15) — MICAYELA HERNANDEZ poured in 19 points to help Granite Hills submarine El Camino 43-24 in Friday’s (Dec. 11) Matador Classic contest, which snapped a 4-game losing streak for the Eagles.

“Coming out on top is definitely a better feeling,” Eagles coach CURTIS NORWOOD said. “Hernandez hit a 3-pointer in the first minute and KANI KUBARI hit two shots. That got our confidence rolling.”

“We held El Camino to 2 points in the first quarter and led 10-2 after that,” Norwood added. “Even though we’ve struggled in the early part of the season, it’s going to be good to go into practice where you can create a game situation. I think the extra two weeks will pay off quite a bit. We’ve got time to prepare for January.”

“We’re going to go back into the laboratory and create a formula for success.”

“What hurt tonight is we missed 9 free throws and Oceanside shot 24 and made 14,” said Campbell.

It didn’t matter though as the Foothillers impaled the Pirates 11-6 in the extra session.
