RANCHO SAN DIEGO — In a battle of unbeatens in Tuesday’s (Dec. 15) Game On Challenge championship at Cuyamaca College La Jolla Country Day rocked Grossmont, 67-47.

The No. 13 ranked Torreys barged in front 10-0 and pushed their advantage to 15-2 in the early going and never looked back.

LJCD outscored Grossmont across the board for its sixth straight win. Grossmont suffered its first loss in six starts.

Ryan Langborg paced the Torreys (6-0) with 21 points including 5 of 7 shots from 3-point range. As a team LJCD nailed 11 treys.

Steady 6-foot-10 senior TOMMY RUTHERFORD muscled in 21 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked 4 shots to lead Grossmont (5-1). Rutherford was also 7 of 8 from the free throw line. But he was a lone flier for the Foothillers.

“We didn’t come out strong,” Rutherford said. “We weren’t much of a unit but we’re gonna make the changes necessary so that we are.”

Added Grossmont coach FRANK FOGGIANO, “Any team that can shoot outside like these guys did is going to hurt us.”

Regardless of the outcome Rutherford is basically unstoppable.

“When it comes to Tommy, there’s not much to say except that he takes losses hard,” Foggiano said.

JONAH HEBEL added 10 points to pace Grossmont’s supporting staff.

“To get to the next level we have to beat good teams like this,” Foggiano said.

Grossmont:  Tommy Rutherford 21 (17 reb,1 ast, 1 stl, 4 blk), Jonah Hebel 10 (2 reb),  Jeremiah Appleton 7 (1 reb, 1 ast), Matt Murray 4 (1 reb, 1 ast), Hunter Mulder 3 (1 reb), Damageae Gant 2 (1 reb), Hunter Gaines (3 reb).

SANTANA 76, MARANATHA 31 – In a running clock, the host Santana Sultans rolled past the visiting Maranatha Christian Eagles 76-31 to even their record at 3-3.

Everyone pretty much got in the book statistically for the Sultans as a corps scored in double digits led by NOAH NUNEZ and his 12 points to go along with 8 rebounds, SAGE HICKS and COOPER MENDOZA each poured in 11 and MITCHELL MILLER sank 10 points.

The game was a complete runaway in the first quarter as they muscled their way to a 29-7 lead after the first quarter.  The second quarter was more of the same as Santana stampeded to a 48-19 lead at the break.

The Sultans led from start to finish and in the fourth period led enough to trigger the running clock.

Santana: Noah Nunez 12 (8 reb, 1 stl), Sage Hicks 11 (1 reb, 1 ast), Cooper Mendoza 11 (6 reb, 1 ast, 4 stl), Mitchell Miller 10 (2 reb, 3 ast, 5 stl), Daulton Barry 9 (1 reb, 3 ast, 2 stl), Anthony Romero 7 (3 reb), John Bobof 5 (3 reb, 4 ast, 1 stl), Trent Baugh 4 (4 reb, 1 stl), Frankie Gutierrez 4 (2 reb, 4 ast, 2 stl), Dylan Brown 3 (2 reb).
