SAN DIEGO (2-28-16) — Despite being led by 6-foot-7 junior RYAN KELLY’s 27 points, the Granite Hills Eagles came up short in a hard-fought Division III scramble with the Madison Warhawks in Saturday’s (Feb. 27) San Diego CIF playoffs.

Bottom line is Madison escaped with a 68-63 victory which ended the Eagles’ season.

Kelly, meanwhile, was 17-for-19 from the free throw line as well as 5-for-12 from the floor.

“Kelly had a great game even though he had to sit out for about six minutes due to foul trouble,” said Granite Hills coach RANDY ANDERSON. “Madison couldn’t stop him.”

The Warhawks used a 20-17 scoring edge in the fourth quarter to eliminate the Eagles (16-12).

Scoring has been no problem for Granite Hills all season. Case in point is CAMERON SPITZER, who knocked down 12 points including a trio of triples. He also had 3 assists, one less than DAVID SETTERBERG. All 12 of Spitzer’s points came in the first half as the Eagles trailed only 30-27.

Granite Hills was tough on the boards as UCLA bound football player JACOB BURTON yanked down 9 rebounds.

“We played hard all season,” said Anderson. “And I’m proud of that. We have a good group coming back and a 10-0 junior varsity coming up.”

Granite Hills:  Ryan Kelly 27 (7 reb, 1 stl, 1 blk), Cameron Spitzer 12 (3 ast, 1 stl), David Setterberg 7 (6 reb, 4 ast, 3 stl), Darien Cossio 6 (1 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl), Jacob Burton 5 (9 reb, 1 ast), Jorden Rogers 4 (3 reb), Erin Swinson 2, Dylan Garcia (2 reb),
