ROUNDUP: Cougars hold off Norse comeback

RANCHO SAN DIEGO (1-11-17) — Valhalla put up a good fight in Tuesday’s (Jan. 10) non-league encounter with Steele Canyon, but the Steele Canyon Cougars prevailed 41-31 at the end.

Valhalla was down 20 points early in the fourth, but the the Norsemen would cut the lead to 8 points.

The Norsemen were led by sophomore ANGIE ORANGE with 9 points and 12 rebounds.

The Cougars (6-4) led 6-3 after one period, then took a 20-10 lead at halftime.

No further stats provided for either team.

 

MISSION BAY 53, CHRISTIAN 44 – MARISSA GILES led the Patriots with 19 points, 5 rebounds and a steal in Tuesday’s (Jan. 10) Central League game, and teammate JASMYN CRAWFORD tossed in 9 points, grabbed 2 rebounds and made 2 steals.

BROOKE OWENS and HAYLEY ROBINSON each snagged 8 rebounds off the glass for Christian.

Christian led 31-22 at the half, but the second two periods were a different story.

“I don’t know what was wrong,” said Patriots coach TIFFANY GILES. “Marissa only scored one point in the second half. I don’t know why. They didn’t shut her down. I think we got tired.”

Christian:  Marissa Giles 19 (5 reb, 1 stl), Jasmyn Crawford 9 (2 reb, 2 stl), Brooke Owens 7 (8 reb), Suzy Webster 5 (2 reb), Hayley Robinson 2 (8 reb, 4 stl), Alyssa Rothrock 2, Cipriana Hudson (6 reb).

CHULA VISTA 50, MONTE VISTA 31 – ELAYNA MEDRANO scored 14 points and TAYLOR YOUNG added 11 for the Monarchs, however, there was no further report for this non-league game.
