Eagles romp Knights; Sultans prevail; Christian scores late

Non-League

Granite Hills 15, Bishop’s 4 – A big third inning for the Eagles allowed them to break away and scratch the Knights for the non-league victory.

Bishop’s fired the first shot of the contest in the top of the first inning when they were able to push across a couple of runs to lead 2-0 early on.

However the Eagles erased the deficit all with two outs as KAYLA MACK started it off with a single, HAILEY JOHNSON singled to right field, MORGAN KELLY into run, BAILEY WALLACE smashed a line drive that scored Mack on the throw and also allowed Kelly to advance to third. The score was now 2-1 and on the very next pitch Kelly scored on a wild pitch to knot it at 2-2.

The Knights would retake the lead in the top of the second as they pushed across a couple more runs to lead 4-2.

Again the deficit was erased and more for the Eagles and again all done with 2 outs. KARA BLANCHARD would draw a walk, KAREN CREECH would hit a ball to right field that was misplayed and this allowed Blanchard to come around and score to make it 4-3, HALLE KYLER singled advancing Creech to third, Mack smashed a double to left that scored both Creech and Kyler to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead, Johnson walked, Kelly into run and Wallace extended the lead even more as she singled.

The Eagles led 6-4 in the bottom of the third when STACI CHAMBERS led off with a single, RYLEE OMAHEN into run, she steals second, BRIELLE TYESELING hit a ground ball that is misplayed by the second baseman which allows Omahen to score to push the score to 7-4, Blanchard walked, Creech singled to right that scored Tyseling to make it 8-4, Kyler walked, Mack singled to center that scored both Blanchard and Creech to extend the lead to 10-4, a couple of batters later with one out Wallace smashed a fly ball to right that went all the way to the wall for a triple that scored both Kyler and Kelly to make it 12-4, a couple of batters later with two outs Chambers singles scoring Wallace to round out the scoring 13-4.

Chambers who was also in the circle did the job as she only got out of the top of the fourth as the Knights were able to get a couple of runners on base.

Granite Hills rounded out their scoring in the bottom of the fourth with a couple more runs thanks to an error that allowed Creech to score and also multiple hits including a Johnson double and a Mack single.

Chambers garnered the victory tossing the 5 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, walked 3 and fanned 5 on the day.

 

Santana 6, Otay Ranch 1 – Early runs for the Sultans allow them to capture the momentum and also the victory as they had 10 hits on the day.

A one-out single by MACKENZIE BENNETT (1-3, R), CASSIDY MATTHIE (2-4, 2 RBI, 2B) followed with a single to give runners at first and second, BRIANNA JERIG (2 R) came into run for Bennett, RACHEL WILSON (3-3, 4 RBI, 2B) roped a single up the middle that scored Jerig to make it 1-0.

Santana in the top of the second added to their lead as they were able to score three more runs to lead 4-0.

Leadoff hitter SYDNEY BENJAMIN (2-2, R) singled, a couple of batters later MADISON MENDEZ walked, KRYSTEN SERVICE (RUN) came into run for Mendez, Bennett walked to load the bases, Matthie blasted a double that scored both Benjamin and Service and Wilson hit a sacrifice fly that scored Bennett to round out the scoring.

The Mustangs finally got on to the board with a run in the bottom of the third to make it a three-run game 4-1.

However, the Sultans didn’t flinch as they added to their lead in the top of the fourth. Mendez led off with a walk, HAILEY JUSTICE (RUN) came into run, Bennett looped a ball that was misplayed by the second baseman which allowed Justice to advance to third and Bennett to reach, Jerig into run for Bennett, a couple of batters later Wilson knocks in both Justice and Jerig on a smash double to make it 6-1.

Mendez and the defense did the rest as she shut down the Mustangs the rest of the way.

Mendez tossed 7 innings, giving up 1 run on 6 hits, walked 2 and fanned 6 in the victory.

 

City Eastern

Christian 4, La Jolla 2 – A late scoring push by the Patriots allowed them to garner the victory over the Vikings.

The Patriots struck first in the bottom of the first inning as SILENT RAIN ESPINOZA (1-3, 2 R, 2B, SB) led off with a smash double, she advanced to third on a wild pitch and a couple of batters later came into score on a single by ASHLEY CARTER (2-3, R, 3 RBI, SB, 3B) to make it 1-0, who would score on a single by ELLE LINDBLAD (1-3, RBI) to make it 2-0.

The score would remain with Christian leading until the Vikings put a run on the board in the top of the fourth to cut it to a one run game 2-1. They would tie the game in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a lead double, who would score on another double to tie it at 2-2.

So with the score tied at 2-2, Espinoza led off for the Patriots in the bottom of the fifth inning with a walk, she stole second base, MALLORY STEELE (RUN) followed with another walk to put runners at first and second, Carter came up to the plate and crushed a ball to the wall which allowed Espinoza and Steele to score and Carter to end up on third for a triple. Thanks to the triple the Patriots retook the lead 4-2.

La Jolla had another opportunity in the top of the sixth to push across runs as they singled and doubled to have runners on second and third but Carter shut down the threat as she got the next batter to ground out to short for the final out.

Again in the top of the seven the Viking had to two runners on thanks to Patriot miscues and again Carter worked her magic as she struck out the next batter to end the game. It was the second strikeout for Carter in the inning.

On the day Carter went 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, walked 2 and struck out 6 in the victory.

 

City Western

Patrick Henry 18, Mira Mesa 6 – In a back and forth slugfest the Patriots used 11 runs scored over the final two innings to secure the victory.

The Patriots got on the board first when leadoff hitter HANNAH MCEWEN (1-3, R, 2 RBI, 2B, SB) reached on an error, stole second base and would come into score on another error to make it 1-0.

However, the lead didn’t last as the Marauders got to MADISON JAMES (2-3, 2R, 3 RBI, HR) thanks to multiple base hits which led to 3 runs and a 3-1 lead for Mira Mesa after the first inning.

Patrick Henry didn’t blink as they would go on to tie the game in the top of the second inning. James led off with a solo-homerun to cut the lead to 3-2 and LAILA SPRACKLEN (2-4, 2R, 2 RBI) reached on an error, stole second base and came into score on a double by ARIANA RIOS (2-3, R, 2 RBI, 2B) to tie the game 3-3. Mira Mesa again retook the lead in the bottom of the second with a run to lead 4-3.

Making her return for the Patriots, CRISTIONA CACCAMISE (3-4, 3R, 2B) singled with one out, ANDREA WRIGHT (2-4, 2R) singled, James followed with a single that scored Caccamise to knot the score 4-4, James would end up scoring to make it 5-4, SAVANNAH CHAPMAN (1-3, 2R, 2 RBI, 2B) reached on a fielders choice and would come around to score to make it 6-4, LAUREN NETT (2-3, 2R, 2 RBI) singled in a run to make it 7-4

Mira Mesa in the bottom of the fourth pushed across another run to cut into the Patriot lead 7-5. However the lead would increase for the Patriots in the top of the fifth when they would push across six runs to take a 13-5 lead.

Caccamise led off with a single and she would come around to score, Wright reached on an error and would score, H JENKS (1-1, R, RBI) would also reach on an error and come around to score, Chapman doubled in a couple more runs, Nett singled in another run, Spracklen singled in a run and Rios would score as well to round out the scoring.

The Marauders answered with another run in the bottom of the inning to make the score 13-6. Again the Patriots answered with more offense in the top of the sixth inning as they scored 5 more runs to extend their lead to 18-6.

Leading off again Caccamise roped a double, Wright singled and Jenks doubled in Caccamise, a couple of batters later LILI PENA (1-1, R, RBI) drove in a run as she singled, Spracklen singled and would score later, Rios singled in a run.

James garnered the victory as she tossed 5 innings, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits, walked 2 and fanned 3 on the day.
