HELIX 62, JURUPA HILLS 16 – The Helix football players have made their season debuts at the Sweetwater Tournament this week, and on Wednesday, senior CARSON BAKER, of the section champion Highlander football team, made his season debut and finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Highlanders roll, 62-16, in a matinee against the invaders from Fontana.
Basketballer JAYLEN HINSON, a senior, led the Highlanders with 11 points.
Senior ISAIAH WOODEN thought he was off to another one of his quick starts on the gridiron, as he rushed to eight points in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, full-time sophomore hooper MAURICE HOLMES had seven of his nine points in the first quarter and also brought down seven boards.
Senior AMARI GREEN had seven rebounds and four assists for the Highlanders. Helix sophomore DELSHAWN TRAYLOR, also a football team member who played behind Baker this season at QB, canned a three in the third period.
“We rebounded well defensively and pushed the ball in transition,” Helix coach BRENNAN CASSADY said. “we are going a better job defending, rebounding and sharing the ball.”
Helix (5-2) will face Crawford on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Sweetwater Tournament.
