SAN DIEGO – One night after an impressive performance that saw Foothills Christian route State #10 Westchester, the Knights offense stalled against Mission Bay. Boogie Ellis was as advertised for the Buccaneers, leading the way with 23-points on the night as the Bucs downed the Knights, 72-56, at the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic.

The Bucs’ Ronnie Latting was perhaps a bigger factor though with 18-points of his own. Latting clogged up the paint for most of the night.

Cherry dunks against Mission Bay Thursday night.

Foothills Christian landed just one of 11 three-point attempts in the first half.

TAESHON CHERRY led the scoring for the Knights once again, but it wasn’t the usual high-octane performance coach BRAD LEAF’s team has become accustomed to on the stat sheet. Cherry had six rebounds and five steals on the night.

DERRICK CARTER-HOLLINGER also finished below the double-digit line on the glass with seven caroms on the night. The junior wing had eight-points on a 3-10 shooting night.

YASSINE GHARRAM once again had a solid night for Foothills with 13-points but was limited to two assists. The Knights tallied just eight-assist on the evening, settling for one and done possessions too often in the early going.

Mission Bay built their lead to as much as 17-points in the third quarter before a Carter-Hollinger bucket slimmed that lead to just nine early in the fourth.

Junior JAREN NAFARRETE was 4-9 from the field, finishing with 9-points for Foothills Christian. Nafarrete also had two of the team’s eight-assist in a lack of ball movement plagued performance.

Foothills Christian will now face Crossroads who is led by Shareef O’Neal, son of former NBA Superstar Shaquille O’Neal. The school also boast a long list of famous alum in Baron Davis, Damon Wayans Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jack Black, Kate Hudson, Liv Tyler, Maya Rudolph and Michal Bay amongst others.
