CHULA VISTA (1-26- 2018) – Grossmont College head coach DOUG WEBER stated exactly what happened against the Southwestern Jaguars in a nutshell.

“As I watched film and saw how they played after they only lost to San Diego City by 15,” Weber said on Wednesday evening. “Despite their record, that is going to be a very tough game on Friday.”

The Grossmont skipper most definitely did his homework on the Jags.

Southwestern College came into Friday evening’s contest with a 9-11 record, including 3-1 in conference, as the Grossmont College Griffins, ranked at 19th in the state and 10th in Southern California, came in with a record of 14-7 (3-1 in conference), as on paper it should’ve been a pretty far separation according to record and rankings.

It was a very tightly matched game on both sides of the ball.

Grossmont and Southwestern were so close at the end of regulation tied at 66, the Griffins missed the shot at the buzzer, thus the contest went into overtime.

Grossmont’s RONALD BLAIN had 28 points and hit his double-double goal, he has been a key asset to the Griffins all season.

“I can’t say enough about how well-coached the Jaguars are, how athletic they are,” said Weber. “They are one of the better teams we have faced this season.”

As overtime went into effect, Grossmont’s OSCAR LIMON made two key free throws, as well as, JOSH MORAN to put the Griffs up a total of 5 as time ran out at Southwestern, as the Griffins won another big game, for their third-straight win.

Grossmont, now 15-7 (4-1), will practice hard before meeting their next foe, San Diego Mesa (5-15, 2-3) at Grossmont College, Friday, February 2 at 7 pm.

Grossmont has already defeated Mesa, 65-63, in the the first game of league at Mesa on January 12.

Grossmont’s DAVID WHEELER and Moran also added 15 points in Friday’s thriller, an 82-77 Griffin victory in overtime.
