WEST HILLS 5, HILLTOP 0
The Wolf Pack were looking to extend their momentum from their previous game and set themselves up for bracket play over the weekend and indeed they did as they shutout the Lancers.
Neither team was able to take advantage of their opportunities until the Wolf Pack did so in the bottom of the third inning. Starting things off was leadoff hitter Mia Colabella (1-1, 2R) who was hit by a pitch, Haley Valles (RUN) walked, Mikayla Cristini (1-2, R) singled to load the bases, Alyssa Bubar (1-1, R, 2 RBI) drew a bases loaded walk which scored Colabella to make it 1-0.
Next up for West Hills was Ashleigh Hartwig (RBI) who drove in Valles on a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0 and a couple batters later Carly Bursch (2-2, 2 RBI, 2B) drove in both Cristini and Bubar with a smash double to make it 4-0.
It wouldn’t be until the bottom of the fourth inning until the Wolf Pack added another run when Bubar hit a sacrifice fly to score Colabella to make it 5-0.
Starting for the Pack in the circle was junior Emma Bentley who garnered the win going 3 innings, giving up 0 runs on 3 hits, walked 2 and struck out 4. She would be relieved by Star Gaylord (1-3, 2B) who tossed 2 innings, giving up 0 runs on 1 hit and struck out 1 to get the save.
STEELE CANYON 10, BRAWLEY 4
Once again the offensive machine of the Cougars picks up steam and just rolls to victory as was the case against the Wildcats on Friday evening.
However, the Wildcats didn’t go without putting up a fight as they shut down the juggernaut offense of the Cougars for a couple of innings. Brawley would actually take an early lead in the bottom of the second inning as they took advantage of a miscue by Steele Canyon to lead 1-0.
However the lead didn’t last for the Wildcats as the bats of the Cougars woke up in the top of the third with one down as DJ Dumeng (1-2, R) laced a single, Jasmin Alvarado (2-4, 2R) followed with another single advancing Dumeng to second, Audrey Bagge (1-3, 2R, RBI) walked to load the bases, JJ Venzor (1-3, 2R, 2 RBI) hit into a fielder’s choice and reached on an error that scored Dumeng to tie the game at 1-1.
During the at-bat of Maggie Carpenter (1-3, R, RBI) the Wildcat pitcher uncorked a wild pitch that scored Alvarado, Carpenter would rope a single to make it 3-1. The next batter Bianca Morales (2-2, R, RBI, 2B, 3B) who had been on a terror of late continued as she smashed a double to make it 4-1. The Cougars would add another run thanks to a groundout from Tayler Thomas 91-3, 3 RBI) extending the lead 5-1.
Brawley again wouldn’t go down and would scratch another run across off Cougars pitcher Grace Ricter to make it 5-2.
However the Cougars were unphased as they gained the run back and then some as leadoff hitter Elizabeth Bott led off with a single to third, she would come around to score on a single by Bagge. Also scoring on the play on the throw was Alvarado which made 7-2. Steele Canyon added another run on a Venzor single to make it 8-2 and would round out the scoring on a Thomas laced single.
Brawley scored again in the top of the fourth inning to make it 10-3. Leading by a big margin some new faces came into the game for the Cougars. Leading off in the bottom of the fourth for Steele Canyon was Marley Rimoldi who got in on the hitting action with a double to center field, she would be stranded at second base.
Coming into the game to pitch for the Cougars was Venzor who did give up a run but it didn’t matter as she got the final out on a groundout.
For the Cougars, Richter got the win going 4 innings, giving up 3 runs of which 2 were earned on 7 hits, struck out 4. In relief Venzor tossed an inning giving up the run which was earned and walked 3.
PATRICK HENRY 3, OTAY RANCH 3
The Patriots were able to strike first in their contest with the Mustangs in the top of the third inning when leadoff hitter Savanah Chapman (2-4, R, RBI, HR) blasted a solo shot to make it 1-0.
The slim lead would hold for the Patriots until the bottom of the third inning when the Mustangs pushed across three runs to take a 3-1 lead off Patriots pitcher H. Jenks.
Now trailing and down to their final three outs the Patriots needed some offense to get back into the game. Leadoff hitter Jessica Dewitt (1-2, R) a freshman did just that as she singled, unfortunately, the next two batters were retired and it didn’t look good for the Patriots. However, Ari Rios (RUN, SB) changed that as she got a base hit which scored Dewitt to pull the Patriots within 3-2, Lauren Nett would reach on an error to keep the hopes and inning alive. With two outs and looking to keep things going was Lili Pena (1-3, RBI) and she did just that on an 0-2 count when she laced a single that tied the game at 3-3.
Jenks for the Patriots tossed 6 innings, giving up 3 runs of which 1 was earned while walking 0 and fanning 11 on the day.
POWAY 5, GRANITE HILLS 2
Early on the Granite Hills Eagles had all the momentum as they were able to take advantage of multiple hits in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Leading things off was Sydney Huse (1-2, R) who singled, Kara Blanchard (1-2, 2B) roped a double to put runners at second and third and a couple batters later Morgan Kelly (RBI) drove in Huse on a sacrifice fly.
The Eagles again struck gold in the top of the third inning as Bailey Wallace (1-3, R, SB) led off with a single, she stole second base, Haley Johnson (1-2) followed with another single, she would advance to second on the throw, a couple batters later Wallace would score on a Chambers (1-2, RBI) single to center to make it 2-0.
In the circle for the Eagles, Chambers was dealing as the Titans couldn’t get anything until the bottom of the fourth when they were able to push across a run thanks to a double to make it 2-1 and would tie the game at 2-2 on a sacrifice fly.
The Titans would take the lead for the first time in the bottom of the fifth when T. Riley crushed a shot over the fence to make it 3-2. They would extend their lead thanks to a three-run homer by C. Sullivan over the second fence pushing the lead to 5-2.
Taking the loss for the Eagles was Dobbs who tossed 2/3 of an inning, giving up 3 runs of which all were earned on 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 1. Chambers started out going 4 innings, giving up 2 runs of which both were earned on 2 hits, walked 4 and struck out 4.
POINT LOMA 7, GROSSMONT 2
Despite outhitting the Pointer the Grossmont Foothillers couldn’t get enough offense on the evening.
Things looked good for Grossmont early on in the bottom of the first inning as Kimmy Bond (1-3, R) led off with a single, she would come around to score when Jordan Brown (2-3, R, RBI, 2B) drove her in on a single to left making it 1-0.
However, that early lead was erased in the top of the second by the Pointers as they scratched three runs to take a 3-1 lead. They would add three more runs in the top of the third inning to extend their lead to 6-1.
Grossmont tried to make a comeback in the bottom of the third as Brown smashed a double, she would come around to score on a K. Contreras single to center to make it 6-2, Jessica Medlin would follow with a single but that would be all the Foothillers in the inning.
Point Loma would add another run in the top of the fifth inning to make it 7-2 which would round out their scoring on the evening.
Contreras for the Foothillers took the loss as she went 6 innings, giving up 7 runs on the night on 3 hits, walked 3 and struck out 1.
