Chambers homers, delivers for Eagles

The Granite Hills Eagles got back to winning on Tuesday afternoon thanks to a two-run homer by Catie Dobbs (2-3, 2R, 2 RBI, HR) in the bottom of the fifth inning to propel the Eagles to the decisive victory.

The victory early on didn’t come easy as the Eagles who scored a run in the bottom of the second inning and another in the bottom of the third on a Haley Johnson (1-3, 2 RBI, 3B) triple that scored A.Ottley (RUN) to make it 2-0 blew the lead in the top of the fourth when Patrick Henry pushed across two to tie it 2-2.

The Patriots got their bats going in the top of the fourth starting with a smash double by Lauren Nett (3-3, R, 2B) who reached third on a hit ball by H. Jenks that was misplayed, Lili Pena into run, Jessica Dewitt (RUN) laid down a sacrifice that scored Nett, a couple batters later Dezianna Patmon hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Dewitt to tie the game.

Moving along to the bottom of the fifth inning the Eagles besides the two-run homer would add another run on a Brooke Bertussi (1-3, 2 RBI) single that scored McKenzie Boehm (RUN) who had reached on an error.

Patrick Henry in the top of the sixth would start off with a single by Nett and she would eventually move to third and Maddie Simmons (1-2) would be hit by a pitch. However, both would be stranded to end the inning.

More offense for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth when Staci Chambers (2-3, R, 3 RBI, 2B, HR) bombed a three-run jack that scored Kara Blanchard (RUN) (ROE) and Esparza (single) to extend the lead 8-2. Back-to-back singles by Dobbs and Julia Tysling (1-1, 3R) followed by a walk by Kaylenn Valenzuela would load the bases, Bertussi is hit by a pitch that scored Dobbs and a couple batters later Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to score Tysling.

Pitching for the Patriots, Jenks went 5 innings in the loss giving up 5 runs of which 3 were earned on 6 hits while walking 4 and fanning 7.

Getting the win for the Eagles, Chambers tossed a 4 hit, 7-inning complete game giving up 2 runs of which 1 was earned while walking 1 and striking out 7.
