LAKESIDE – El Capitan’s head coach RON BURNER has never started a football season in Lakeside with four-straight defeats.
The veteran coach certainly doesn’t ignore the challenge, stacking nearly the first third of his schedule with some of the section’s best teams.
The third-ranked Madison Warhawks stomped their way to an early lead to down the Vaqueros, 56-27, on Friday night.
El Capitan will get another shot at its first win of the season next Friday night against another winless team, Patrick Henry.
The Warhawks’ Kenan Christon scored on an 80-yard run on the first play of the game on Friday night. Teammate Daniel Stokes added a pair or touchdowns.
El Capitan’s CHRIS SUMMERS scored a pair of touchdowns, as El Capitan continued to pull within three scores.
The Warhawks led 49-14 at halftime.
In the second half, El Capitan quarterback WICK HAUSER teamed up with receiver ETHAN BURLESON for a pair of scores for the second-straight game.
Burleson’s size and stride when running after the completion is particularly impressive.
Hauser threw for over 200 yards on the night. He connected with JOHN CASE on a completion for 25 yards.
El Cap’s YAPHET YOKLEY had a 58-yard kickoff return.
