Matador connection is in sync in win

Allen-Pompey, a senior, caught three touchdown passes from the junior quarterback as the Matadors drubbed the host Chula Vista Spartans, 47-7, on Friday night

Laverdiere had touchdown passes of 35, 23 and 43 yards to Allen-Pompey, who finished with seven receptions for 177 yards on the night.

Laverdiere had a typical J.D. night, completing 17-of-28 passes for 313 yards.

The pair hooked up in the first quarter to open the scoring on a perfect dart over the middle of the field, then connected twice in a three-minute span in the third quarter, including the 43-yarder on a deep ball down the right sideline to open up a 31-7 lead.

Laverdiere threw a fourth-quarter TD to receiver Joseph Castillo, who had 66 yards on three receptions.

The protection – provided by seniors Christan Bernal, Quincy Snipes, Ulices Monje, Julius Ford, and junior Elias Doering – was stout for Laverdiere.

The Spartans drove the ball inside the 10-yard line on the game’s first possession but the Matadors forced a turnover on downs.

Mount Miguel scored on two safeties, including the second by sophomore Ruben Hernandez, within a couple of minutes in the second quarter for a 10-0 lead.

Laverdiere has a 1-yard touchdown run with four minutes to go in the first half for a 17-0 lead.

Senior Jordan Williams closed out the scoring with a 5-yard score for the Matadors.

Mount Miguel had a fumble recovery, as well as, a sack in the second quarter.

Mount Miguel led 17-7 at halftime.
