SOLANA BEACH – The script was the same for the Mount Miguel Matadors on their trip to Solana Beach on Friday afternoon to face the Santa Fe Christian Eagles.

The Matadors trailed early, then considerably, before J.D. Laverdiere and Jahiem Allen-Pompey got going, albeit in the fourth quarter.

One of the county’s most prolific passing combos struck three times but the Matadors didn’t have enough time in a 35-20 loss to the Eagles.

Santa Fe rushed past or through the Matadors to take a 14-0 lead after one quarter and a 28-0 lead after three periods.

The Matadors forced a fumble in the first quarter, which was recovered by Kojo Miller near midfield.

Julius Ford had a sack late in the second quarter with the Matadors trailing 21-0.

Laverdiere had a long run early in the second quarter. He also hooked on a pair of long pass plays with Allen-Pompey in the second quarter and again on a pair of big gain in the third quarter that weren’t touchdowns. The duo had another big non-scoring completion on a scoring drive in the fourth.

Joseph Castillo and Miller also caught long passes from the Matador quarterback in the third quarter.

Laverdiere also had a pair of big completions to Miller on Mount Miguel’s first scoring drive, which culminated with nine minutes to go in the game, making it 28-7 on a 25-yard strike to Allen-Pompey.

The Matador duo struck again in the fourth on a 22-yard play to cut the lead to 35-13, but with just three minutes and change left.

In the final minutes, Allen-Pompey had a 67-yard touchdown on a pass from Laverdiere.

Quincy Snipes had a sack for the Matadors in the third quarter.

Matthew Sanford had three interceptions for the Eagles.

Mount Miguel (1-2) hosts the Valhalla Norsemen next Friday at 7.
