Wolf Pack hold off Lions; Matadors win

LEMON GROVE – West Hills head coach knew the West Hills Wolf Pack would have their hands full with the Liberty Charter Lions on Saturday.
Coming off a big home win over Helix the evening before, the Wolf Pack coach was wary of the Lions and their chances to catch West Hills taking the catnap.
It was just the opposite, really, as the Pack came out with the same level of play that carried them to their history win the night prior.
Although, the Lions were able to wear the visitors down maybe a little more quickly, getting back into the game and creating a tight finish.
However, the West Hills Wolf Pack defeated the Liberty Charter Lions, 56-50, on Saturday in a game that Barry thought would be as tough as it appeared for his squad.
Kyle Dobyns led West Hills with 17 points, including six in the fourth quarter to help the Pack hold on.
Luke Gibson and Brendan Greene both had 12 points for the Wolf Pack.
Greene made a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter. Dobyns also had a three in the first, as the Wolf Pack bolted out to an 18-3.
The Pack still managed to take a 34-18 lead into halftime.
Ryan Mallioux finished with nine points for West Hills, including a three-pointer in the second quarter.
Liberty’s Tyler Snell had a game-high 22 points, making three of his four three-pointers in the fourth quarter to rally the Lions, which outscored the Pack, 20-12, in the fourth.
Senior Jayden Swanson had 13 for Liberty (6-6)
Senior Jonah Belprez added 12 for the Lions.
It was the second meeting of the season between the two teams with the Wolf Pack taking a 67-59 win back on April 2.
MOUNT MIGUEL 60, GROSSMONT 48 – The Mount Miguel Matadors won against Grossmont in a game matching two of the top teams in the East County so far this season.
Mount Miguel trailed just 12-11 after one quarter but used a 20-13 advantage to take the lead into halftime.
Mount Miguel improved to 6-2, while the Foothillers fell to 8-3.
Kaleb Wilson had a rebound putback for a dunk with just over two minutes to play to put this one away.
