PINE VALLEY (1-21-2022) — Starting slowly and coming from behind to win seems to be the formula as of late as far as the Mountain Empire RedHawks are concerned.

“Same story as the previous two games of these three in a row. Started slowly as a result of the emotional high of being 4-0 in League. We kept playing hard though and eventually pulled ahead,”  said Mountain Empire head coach Bernard Vann.

A little different flavor in the first quarter of this one as they completed the first quarter it was tied, 8-all.  The red-hot RedHawks got down to business and pulled away in the second quarter instead of waiting until the second half to make their move and run away with this one.

Mountain Empire won the second quarter, 14-4, and was up 22-12 at the half.

The RedHawks’ defense and offense were so in sync that the host RedHawks won the next half combined, 26-9.

Warner really never had a chance as the momentum shifted in the second quarter and Mountain Empire, although on their third straight game, were flying high above the clouds. They had pretty much been doing this since they slid into first place in the Pioneer League.

Similar to Wednesday evening, Albin Acevedo had another spectacular game with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

“We had to play hard because we knew we had three games in a row. I believe our defense, as a team, as well as having great teammates and playing hard, are the reasons we won three games in a row. In the first half, we make simple mistakes that Coach Vann tells us how to adjust in the second half, which we do, and play even better,” said Acevedo.
