EUGENE, Ore. – Ashlyn Edwards, a product of Monte Vista High, registered a hat trick to bolster the San Diego Christian College women’s soccer team to a 4-1 decision over tournament host Bushnell University in the annual Beacons Classic, held at historic Eugene Civic Park.

The contest, moved to a night game due to excessive heat, was the first-ever meeting between the programs.

The three goals by Edwards is the school’s most in five seasons, when – Alissa Munguia equaled the school record with four goals, coming against Saint Katherine in 2017.

Edwards, a two-time all-Golden State Athletic Conference performer, now owns six goals on the season, needing just four ore to move onto the all-time single-season list.

Edwards, a junior forward, tallied on a long shot from the sideline, bending into the right corner of the net just 2:29 into the contest. Her second goal came in the 17th minutes for a 2-0 Hawks advantage.

The Beacons got one goal back, but Edwards’ hustle on defense allowed to complete her hat trick in the first half.

In the 22nd minute, she challenged aq defender for the ball, made the steal, then scored on a 1-vs.-1 with the goalkeeper on the unassisted tally.

Late in the first half, San Diego Christian’s Brianna Figueroa (Sunny Hills HS, Fullerton) made it 4-1 with Edwards making a sharp pass to an open winger instead of going for her fourth goal. The second half was scoreless.

The improving Hawks offense took a season-best 21 shots to finish in third place in the tournament.

The next San Diego Christian home game is Wed., Sept. 28, entertaining Westcliff University (Irvine) at Town Center Community Park in Santee, starting at 1 p.m.
