Hawks go ‘Lights Out, San Diego’ on MSN

Get it? The Northern Lights? How quaint.
More scientifically known as the aurora borealis, coined by astronomer Galileo for the atmospheric condition around the arctic circle which produces radiant, shimmering colors in the night sky.
However, someone in the college town of Havre, Mont., noted that the school’s top teams were basketball and that they played indoors.
Thus, the school recently changed its nickname to the “Skylights.”
As far as San Diego Christian College is concerned, it was “Lights Out, San Diego” after the Hawks whipped the NCAA Division II program for the first time in three meetings, 62-51, at the Cactus Classic women’s basketball tournament held Thursday (Dec. 22) at Chandler-Gilbert Comm College.

Hawks senior forward Jamie Joseph led the way by psoting a double-double, tallying 11 points and 11 rebounds in the triumph.
Meanwhile, Haylie Anderson paced all SDCC scorers with 12 points.
The turning point came in the fourth uarter, when the Hawks snapped a ballgame tied at 45-all by outscoring Northern, 17-6, for the double-digit win.
Montana State-Northern actually scored the first basket of the final period, then it was all hawks in a 17-4 closing run.
The closing finale started slow for both sides as the defenses dug it, then the Hawks took over during the final seven minutes.
Following a defensive rebound when senior guard Cynnadie Whatley battled with the bigs inside, Joseph hit the go-ahead bucket to make it 48-47 with 6:43 remaining.
Keren Hogue
Keren Hogue followed with a layin, , then Whatley also scored from the paint to bolster a 15-2 scoring run over a span of 5:44. Hogue registered all 8 of her points over the final seven minutes.
Montana State-Northern (4-8) received team-highs of 16 points and 9 rebounds from sophomore center Shyan Krass.
San Diego Christian returns to action on Tue., Jan. 3, hosting Bethesda University of California at the El Cajon Salvation Army’s Red Shield Center gymnasium, starting at 5:30 p.m.
