EL CAJON — Forced to play a third ballgame within a 48-hour span, El Cajon Valley wons its second straight game at the 4th annual Braves Winter Classic, surviving an overtime period to down San Ysidro, 48-44.

Four different members of the Braves established career highs in order to defeat the Cougars.

Heading the list waqs was guard McKinley Morgan, scoring a career high 18 points. And just like Mount Miguel;s Jaylene Hughes, Morgan is also a freshman.

Other Braves establishing career bests were:  sophomore Onnamarie Miller (13 rebounds), guard Kiyara Millice (10 assists), and senior defender Anna Nyarsuk (7 steals).

The combo, plus the bench, chipped in for the missing Asia Marie Dixon, who is out indefinitely with a knee injury.

Meanwhile, unbeaten Rancho Bernardo (13-0) captured the Gold Division championship by whipping San marcos, 59-28.

Malia Flores

Among other local ballclubs, Victory Christian’s 3-point shooting was enough to down Monte Vista, 53-33.

However, the Monarchs’ Malia Flores, a senior guard, was still named to the all-tournament team.
