ECS staff report
Hughes collected all but two of the Matadors’ points, but they fell to Maranatha Christian, 61-60.
58 points broke her tie for first place all-time of 52 points with former Grossmont High standout Christina Adams. Hughes also moved to within a single point for the all-gender mark of 59, set by Kemmy Burgess of El Cajon Valley in the 1998-99 season against Francis W. Parker.
Second on the boys list is Beau Sager of Valhalla, who shot for 567 points against Helix in 1993-94. Many recall many top scoring efforts by Tony Clark in his time with Valhalla and Christian, but the future Major League Basbeasll player’s best inbasketball was only 55 while with the Norsemen in a victory over Santana on Feb. 20, 1989.
Adams still holds the standard with three career 50-point outings.
As for Mount Miguel, Hughes topped the school’s all-gender mark of 54, set by Izzy Wagner against Hilltop in 2012-13.
