CHULA VISTA – In a rare 1 p.m. midday contest, the Liberty Charter Lions needed a mere four innings to vanquish the Ocean View Christian Patriots, 14-2. Lions catcher Drake Keehl drove in a career-best five runs, featuring his first home run of the season. Sophomore Isaac Anderson also established a career-high with three RBI. Both also escored twice. Meanwhile, Christian DSLayton tied a school mark by walking three times. On the mound, Jaxon Adrain pitched the first three innings, but since the score was at 14-1, he still received the win based on the CIF Victory with Honor guidelines. Among his 9 outs, all 9 were on strikeouts; the run was unearned. Liberty Charter (6-12 overall) moved to 3-2 in Summit League play, to gain a share of second place.

POINT LOMA – The pitching staff from Patrick Henry bounced back from a rough, 2-week stage to shutout the host Point Loma Pointers… yet they didn’t win. The Pointers also posted a shutout via a 3-hitter in a scoreless draw which keeps Point Loma in first place. The oddity is that the game was played after the time change, giving Point Loma its fourth tie of the season. People holding the records are busy seeing if this is a CIF-San Diego Section record. For the Patriots, Cody Cappelletti fired a 3-hitter over seven innings, then the bullpen survived allowing two hits in two frames. Cappelletti struck out eight. For Point Loma, William Sanford struck out eight in seven innings, yet also garnered a no-decision.

MENIFEE – The day was long for Foothills Christian, yet it eventually became fruitful. The Knights scored four times in the first inning in building a 5-0 lead, but fumbled it away. The lead went to 7-5, but a run in the seventh would force extra innings. But in the 11th, a 5-run outburst finally proved to be enough for Foothills Christian (13-9) to down the host Santa Rosa Academy Rangers in a non-league affair. The Mustangs (7-12) drilled three triples, but lost on five errors.

Foothills Christian 7, Coastal 3 – The Knights (11-6 overall) remained unbeaten in Pacific League play at 3-0 after stopping the Stingrays, scoring all of their runs in the first two innings before Coastal finally answered in the seventh to ruin the shutout bid. Senior Andrew Burke delivered a two-run single in the first for a 3-0 lead, then Foothills Christian added four more runs in the second. Burke, overcoming a terrible junior season, is now batting over .300 and leads all East County batters with 19 RBI. Burke was also the winning pitcher, giving a chance for the shutgout with 6.1 solid innings before Coastal finally broke through. Nevertheless, he established a career high by striking out 11 Stringrays batters.

Mos of the damage was created by the Grizzlies (3-5), which committed three errors to allow five unearned runs to score. For the Patriots (9-2), Jack Giordano and Alex Mestman posted RBI singles.
Guajome Park 10, Liberty Charter 6 – tThe host Frogs (6-2) scored five times in the first inning en route to mounting a 10-1 lead to down the Lions (2-7).

Liberty Charter 15, Coastal 44 – Liberty Charter junior Brody Harris drove in a career-high five runs, stroking both a doubl and home run to power the Lions past the host Coastal Academy Stingrays, 15-4, on Tuesday (Mar. 12) in North County.
Along with Hsarris, senior Jaxon Adrain aded 3 RBI,as the lions mounted 13 hits, including three (and three runs scored) by Nathan Banks.
Trailingh 1-0, Liberty Charter (2-5 overall) posted 12 runs in the third inning to subdue the Stingrays (3-3) tp snp a 4-game losing skid.
Monte Vista 15, Canyon Hills 2 – The Monarchs were leading 8-0 through three frames, then posted five additional runs in the fifth inning to put this puppy away.
Of course,a polite Monarchs scorekeeper “pnly” l”credited” visiting Canyon Hills with 8 errors, although the total was probably much greater
Monte Vista also turned on the power, with seven extra-base blasts among the team’s nine hits.
Four doubles, a pair of triples and a home run — featuring Gavin Daley’s two-base hit and a bomb to left field — allowed the Monarchs to score in event inning except the first.
Daley was also the winning pitcher after going five innings.
Mount Miguel 5, Will C. Crawford 1 (6 inn.) – In another Spring Valley blowout, the Mount Miguel Matadors built a 10-0 vushiion, then added five more markers in the fourth inning before the visiting Colts threw in the towel in a contest shortened to six innings.
Alex Sandoval collected four RBI, Junior Ettleman drove in three runs, with both slugging doubles along with Alfredo Rodriquez. There was also a triple from Matt Barton.
Mount Miguel pitchers Charlie Sandoval and 9 James Cibrian combined on a 4-hitter, as the Colts run was unearned.
Following an 0-3 start, the Matadors are now at .500 with a nice 3-game winning streak.
We noticed Crawford is still above .500 at 3-2, so we looked at the schools they defeated: neighborhood rival Gompers Prep, Bonsall and Bayfront Charter.
Next for Mount Miguel is Kearny, which lost to El Cajon Valley on Tuesday (Mar. 12).
ECVHS 10, Kearny 5 – Unique for a high school series, both ballgames between the schools were played at El Cajon Valley, as the Braves overcame an 11-2 defeat to clobber the Komets, 10-5, in Tuesday’s (Mar. 12) rematch.
The Braves scored twice in the fourth innng to grab a 5-4 advantage, then added five more runs in the fifth to secure full control.
Christopher Cosio collected three of ECVHS’s nine hits, scoring three times. Meanwhile, Jorge Vargas Tiznado went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs, raising his average to .500.
Kearny (4-2) saw its 4-game winning streak snapped. The Braves are 3-1 overall after avenging their lne setback.

Christian 5, Otay Ranch 1 – Christian senior Peter Zacharzuk did not allow an earned run in a complete-game effort, as the host Patriots stopped Otay Ranch, 5-1, in Monday’s (Mar. 11) tournament contest.
Zach arzuk struck out four Mustangs without yielding a walk, and was backed by a trio of double plays,all three surrounded by sophomore Benji Molina and senior Johnny Rocco. D.H. Kim had a hand in a pair of the twin-killings.
Christian (4-2 overall) scored in the first inning, then extended the lead to 3-0 before Otay Ranch answered on an error, then an RBI double by Ricky Aguilar.
However, the Patriots answered in similar fashion on an RBI dobule by Rocco. Also driving in runs were Landon Reed, Braeden Casey and Xavier Farnum (sacrufuce fly).
The Patriots have now won two straight, while the Mustangs (1-6) dropped their sixth straight.
On Wednesday (Mar. 13), the Patriots hit the road to meet Dave Palet’s Bonita Vista Barons (3-1) at 4 p.m.
Helix 3, Montgomery 0 – Helix junior Antoin Simpson fired five innings of 1-jit ball, then accounted for all of the scoring by drilling a 3-run homer in the third inning to single-handily stop visiting Montgomery in
onday’s (Mar. 11)( turnament contest.
Simpson struck out a pair, then relief pitchers Trevor Raylould (hold) and Gabe Lanier (save) fired one frame each to close out the Scotties’ Fourth victory in five outings.
Eastlake 18, Steele Canyon 5 – Tied for third-most runs allowed in Steele Canyon history.

According to MaxPreps 9see Screen Grad, right), the Eastlake Titans made mincemeat of Steele Canyon pitcher, collecting 18 runs on 22 hits in a one-sided tournament contest next to the Great Wall of Jamul.
Other reports claim the final score to bhe 8-1; the Cougars do not report to East County Sports.
If true, the 18 runs allowed ties for the third-most allowed in Cougars history, equaling the mark set by Ramona in CIF San Diego Section playoff action on May 31, 2014.
According to MaxPreps,the recod is 19 set by Harvard-Westlake of Studio City in the teams’ lone meeting in 2007, but this is incorrect.
The mark is actually 24 by Granite Hills in a Grossmont South League contest on May 6, 2003. LINK
The Cougars record for offense is 29 runs, set im 2011.
El Capitan 3, Mira Mesa 2 – Mira Mesa, which traditionally owns oe of the best home-field records in the San Diego City Conference, lket one slip awat Monday (Mar. 11) aftert El Capitan registered single runs in the sixth and seventh inings to nip the Marauders, 3-2.
Neither starting pitcher was ready, as Mira Mesa took a quick 2-1 lead in the first. The the parade of zeroes started until the sixth.
El Capitan’s eun production has been provided by underclassmen most of the seson. This timew, it was two RBI by sophomoe Matthew Eckis and another by junior Dominic Jones on a solo home run to fuel the offense.
Vaqueros pitcher Landon Harbach went 5.1 innings, te final4.2 of shutout variety. However, the victory went to Evin Padilla from out of the bullpen. with1.2 framesof no-hit ball.
Granite Hills 3, Patrick Henry 2 – The Granite Hills Eagles tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, then held on for dear life to finally edge the visiting Patriots, 3-2, in Monday’s (Mar. 11) tournament contest.
Eagles pitcher Brenden Lewis came within two outs of a complete game, but Kade Gaeir entered to register the final two outs, inckuding a strikeout, to garner the senior’s first career save.
Phillip Jones delivered an RBI double for the Eagles, while a pair of errors by the Patriots allowed a pair f unearned runs to spell the difference.

Granite Hills 4, Del Norte 0 – Eagles senior pitcher Chandler Henry fired a no-hitter to power the Eagles past the Del Norte Nighthawks. Henry struck out seven batters, while three walks prevented a perfect game.
The no-hitter was East County’s first since Mar. 2, 2023, when Christian needed to go 8 innings to stop host Chula Vista, 1-0. Meanwhile in 2022, Andruw Godinez and Brody Harris — a pair of freshmen — powered Liberty Charter past NC-High Tech, 14-0.
The last Grossmont Conference school to fire a no-hutter came in 2021, hen Helix blanked San Ysidro, 8-0, nehind Layton Wirschem and Isaac Cota. Before that, Valhalla’s Joseph “JoJo” Ingrassia fired a no-hiter on the final day of the 2020 regular season after accepting a scholarship to San Diego State.
Henry, a four-year varsity performer, is now 2-0 and has yet to allow an earned run over 11 innings pitched.
Granite Hills (3-12 overall) led gate-to-wire behind a two-run double by Parker Vance in the first inning. The other runs came inthe fifth on a pair of unearned runs.
In three victories this season, Eagles pitcung has allowed just one unearned run.
Patrick Henry 7, Mt. Carmel 2 – Four runs in the first inning, then two more in the second placed this contest into the Patriots’ win column early. The Patriots opened the bullpen to a host of pitchers in the waltz, as the Sundevils didn’t score until the seventh inning against underclassmen to avoid the shutout.

Christian 4, Valhalla 2 – Valhalla played catch up to move even on a pair of unearned runs, but Christian scored twice in the fifth inning to down Orange Nation. Patriots senior Xavier Farnum (Sr) and D.H. Kim each stroked a double and two RBI. Brody Gundert pitcher six frames of 4-hit ball over six innings for the victory; Benji Molina garnered the save with a 1-2-3 in the seventh. For Valhalla, starting pitcher Colton Stinkeoway pitched all six innings and is closing in on the school record for career complete games.
Grossmont 5, Vista 4 – The visiting Panthers tallied all four of its runs in the fifth inning inning to take a 4-2 lead, but the Foothillers immediately answered with three runs to take as 5-4 decision. GHS overcame five errors to hang on after three players — Lucas Abkin,Jacob Suter and Brandon Hermosillo — belted home runs.
El Capitan 6, Otay Ranch 2 – Both ballclubs registered seven hits, but the Vaqueros’ hit were more effective. Dominic Jones belted a home run and David Vera slugged a two-run double to lead the Vaq Attack. Both are juniors.
Patrick Henry 4, San Pasqual 0 – Patriots senior pitcher Talin Gardini fired a 3-hitter over five innings, then junior Nate Moloney came out of the bullpen to register three strikeout in a pair of no-hit innings, dominating the host Golden Eagles in southern Escondido. On offense, senior Talin Gardini (Sr), a four-year starter, batted 2-for-4, with a double a two RBI. Mid-game sb Dillon Foster batted 2-for-2.
Steele Canyon 8, Westview 1 – Cougars senior J.T. Hendrie drilled a complete-game to upend the visiting Wolverines. Cougars struck out seven., overcming an early run to fire 6.1 innings of shutout ball. The offense saw Gabe Celaya belt a two-run homer, while Tommy Rimoldi went 3-for-=4 and scored twice.

Valhalla 2, Vista 1 (8 inn.)- Following a scoreless draw through seven regulation innings, all of the contest’s runs were tallied in the 8th inning.
Collecting the RBI for the Norsemen were Julian Jerjees and Colton Stinkeoway;. Scoring the runs were Nate Moulton (Sr) and Ryland Urtnowski. All four are seniors.
Valhalla starting pitcher Mathew Ibrahim fired a 3-hitter but left with no decision after six stellar innngs. Julian Jerjees garnered the victory in relief with two innings despite giving up a run.
If darkness had come sooner, this ballgame would’ve been the first 0-0 game locally since Julian opened the 2023 season at home against the Raptors of North County High Tech High.
Borrego Springs 16, Julian 0 – After scoring nine times in the second inning, the host Rams (2-2 overall) won the Battle of the Tuqui Pass (State Hwy. 76). The game was the season opener for the Eagles.
Kearny 11, ECVHS 2 (6 inn., darkness) – Braves senior Paul Rodriguez Pelayo Stuck out two Komets in an inning of relief, then smacked a double. For Kearny, Elijah Duffy (Sr) belted a 2-run homer to left field.
Foothills Christian 1, ACE 0 – The Knights gained a shutout triumph over ACE (Academy of Careers & Exploration), located in Helensdale (just north of Victorville) off Interstate 15. ACE, of course, are the Eagles.

Helix 5, El Capitan 4 – The visiting Highlanders scored three times in the fifth inning to get even, then scored the game-winning in the seventh for a road decision at Hostetler Field in Lakeside. Helix senior Gabe Lanier batted 3-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBI. to rlly his side from a4-0 deficit. The bullpen tossed five innings of shutout ball, including the final 1.2 frames by Jake Hopkins to garner the victory.
Monte Vista 1, Otay Ranch 0 – Marches senior pitcher Sr fired a two-hut shutout with five strikeouts, while junior Damian Ordaz drove in Orlando Rupley for the contest’s lone run in the sixth inning., to spark Monte Vista (2-2) to a second straight victory.
