CHULA VISTA — The bats came alive for the Patrick Henry Patriots on Tuesday (June 8) as they tallied thirteen runs on twelve hits including four runs driven in by Sydney Newton (3-5, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2 2B) to win convincingly, 13-4, on the road against the Bonita Vista Barons.

Bonita Vista would take an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Makayla Veglia laid down a bunt that allowed Micaela Macario to score.

The one-run lead wouldn’t last as Dezianna Patmon (2-4, 2 R, RBI, HR) belted her ninth home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

Patrick Henry would really blow the game open in the top of the third inning starting with Jessica DeWitt (2-5, R, RBI, 2B) hitting a ball that was misplayed allowing Jenel Mallari (3 R) to score, the next batter Kaiah Altmeyer (1-5, 2 R 2 RBI, 3B, SB) would triple in both Sydney Newton and DeWitt to make it 4-1, Olivia Gigante followed (2-4, 2 RBI, 2B) with a double which brought in Altmeyer.

Leading 5-1 the Patriots add a couple of more runs when Malia Savage drove in both Isabella Dean and Patmon to give them a 7-1 lead.

An RBI single by Gigante would make it 8-1 in the top of the fourth inning.

The Barons would answer with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull within 8-3.

But the Patriots answered right back with a pair of runs thanks to a two-run double by Sydney Newton scoring both Savage and Mallari to make it 10-3.

The Barons would score their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Leading 10-4 in the top of the seventh inning the Patriots would add more when Newton doubled in both Savannah Sutton (RUN) and Mallari which was followed by an RBI double by DeWitt to round out the scoring.

Despite an error committed and a base hit allowed Gigante would retire the next three batters to end the game.

Gigante on the day went all seven innings for the win as she allowed four runs on five hits while walking four and striking out two.

The loss by the Barons now puts them in the loser’s portion of the bracket will they will face Cathedral Catholic who lost to Rancho Buena Vista 2-1 on Friday (June 11). Meanwhile, the Patriots will travel to the North County where they will take on the two-seeded Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns on Friday.
