Barons’ Hughes stops Pats on 2 hits

Hughes stricl out 10 Patriots batters against three walks, then escapeds trouble when Christian had an opportunity to breakup the shutout in the sixth inning.
Ashton McCurty belted a leadoff double, then promptly stole third base to stand 90 feet away with no one out.
However, Hughes struck out the next three batters, The first came on a rare curveball which kept the Patriots napping, then the third out was on a called strike on the inside corner without the Barons catcher ever moving his glove.
The only other Christian hit was a single by Jeremiah Morgan.
Bonita Vista moved to 15-5-1 with its sixth win in-a-ro, the last four by shutout, going 30.1 innings without allopwing a run. Christian (10-10) next plays a road-and-home series with St. Augustine, starting Thursday from Hickman Field in Kearny Mesa.
St. Augustine was (27-4) also in nojn-league action Monday, shutting out Ramona, 3-0.

Monte Vista 9, Mount Miguel 2
Monte Vista’s Jacob Schweizer took advantage of the “big ballpark” by sending a drive to the ball, slamming a three-run triple in the third ining. Schweizer would later score for a 4-2 ascantage.
Tony Mccomb also added a pinch-hit triple for the Monarchs to double the team total. Prior to the contest, Monte Vista posted just two triples all seaason, bith by Reuben Cabugwas.
On the mound, Gavin Daley overcame a slow start to pitch six solid innings, blanking the Matadors over his final 4.1 frames thanks to a season-best 11 strikeouts.
Pitching in the seventh was Schweizer with a 1-2-3 frame to garner the hold.
With the victory, Monte Vista (14-6-1 overall) regaiined a share of the Grossmont Valley League lead at 2-1. Mount Miguel(9-11) has dropped eight straight, including all four GVL encounters.
The Monarchs have also captured 12 straight in the head-to-head series.
