Pacific League
Foothills Christian 5, at Pacific Ridge 1
Knights senior Andrew Burke struck out eight Pacific Ridge batters in firing a 2-hitter against host Pacific Ridge, 5-1.
The run allowed came in the third inning to trim the lead to 2-1, but the Knights responded with three runs in the fourth to seal the triumph.
The big blow was a two-run single by “Captain” Jack Morgan. The sophomnore is batting .4439 on the season, extending his hitting strreak to 13 straight games.
Frosh Bruce Bailey added an RBI and a run scored for FCHS (14-9 overall, 5-3 league), which has won three of its last four outings.
Summit League
Mountain Empire 17, at Ocean View Christian 0 (3 inn.)
OVC (5-4overall, 1-2 league) managed three singles, with only one baserunner reaching second base.
The RedHawks (9-2 overall) are 4-0 in Manzanita competition. The school intentionally did not report individual statistics to not embarrass the opponent, following the CIOFSDS Vivctory With Honor program.
CV-High Tech 4, at Liberty Charter 1
ALPINE – The Liberty Charter Lions, which out-scored opponents 27-0 in their two previous victories, just couldn’t muster any offense against the Bruins in Summit League action at Joan MacQueen Middle School.
The victory allowed the Bruins to flip-flop the Lions for second place inthe league, resting 1.5 games behind frot-running Mountain Empire.
The ballclubs traded runs in the first, then CV-HTH scored twice in the fourth inning to seize control.
Bruins pitcher Luis Isaac Corona (4-0 vs. CIFSDS competition) yielded just two hits to the Lions, The sophomore struck out a career-best 14 batters. Corona’s previous best was 11 as a freshman, also against Liberty Charter.
Trailing 1-0, the Lions received a basehit from Andruw Godinez,eventually scoring on an RBI single by Brody Harris. Afterward, Coronado fired 6.1 frames of no-hit ball.
Liberty Charter (5-12 overall, 2-2 league) faced must-win situations in its final five contests, starting a brief roadtrip Thursday at OceanView Christian.
Manzanita League
Borrego Springs 14, at Warner 1 (5 inn.)
The Rams (10-5 overall) are now 7-0 in league play. Warner has dropped all seven contests.
Borrego Springs will host State Highway 79 rival Julian on Thursday, but it could mean trouble since they also play a look-ahead game on Friday against defending Manzanita titlists Vincent emorial in Calexico.
