Fletcher Hills claims first Section 7 8-10 title, advances to SoCal State

SPRING VALLEY — Fletcher Hills Little League made history Sunday, capturing the Section 7 championship in the 8-10 Baseball Division and becoming the first 10U All-Star team in league history to win a sectional title in the division.

FHLL, the District 41 champion, rolled through the four-team tournament with a pair of impressive victories, opening with a 14-4 triumph over District 66 champion Encanto before blanking District 42 champion Sweetwater Valley, 5-0.

Fletcher Hills wasted little time establishing itself as the tournament favorite, scoring 19 runs while allowing just four over its two games.

Sweetwater Valley defeated District 22 champion Yuma, 14-0, while Yuma eliminated Encanto, 3-0, in a losers-bracket contest, followed by a 4-3 win over SVLL to advance to face the Hillers.

The Section 7 championship sends Fletcher Hills to the Southern California State Tournament, which will be hosted by Santee National Little League in District 41, giving the East County champions a home-field atmosphere for the next stage of their postseason journey.

Fletcher Hills opens state tournament play on Friday, July 24, against Fontana Community Little League (District 71) at 6 p.m. at Santee National Little League.

The winner advances to face the Section 9 champion on Saturday, while the tournament continues through the championship game on Aug. 2.

Rancho de Oro Intermediate 50/70 All-Stars

Rancho de Oro claims Section 7 Intermediate crown

Rancho de Oro represented District 41 at the Southern California State Tournament after defeating Eastlake, of District 42, in the Section 7 championship series. With only the two leagues entered in the Intermediate 50/70 bracket, Rancho de Oro needed to get past Eastlake to secure the sectional title and advance.

At the state tournament in San Bernardino, Rancho de Oro opened with an emphatic 11-1, five-inning victory over Claremont. The District 41 champions then fell into the elimination bracket after a 16-6, five-inning loss to Riviera and saw their postseason end with a 15-5, six-inning loss to Scripps Ranch.

Rancho de Oro finished the Southern California tournament 1-2, with its Section 7 championship and opening-round state victory highlighting the Intermediate All-Stars’ postseason run.
