SAN DIEGO – Foothills Christian bounced back from an upset loss to Westview late last week by upending Mater Dei Catholic 79-73 at Torrey Pines Tuesday night. The game was part of a San Diego showcase night at the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic which featured six of the county’s top 10-teams.

TAESHON CHERRY and DERRICK CARTER-HOLLINGER each poured in 23-points for the Knights, who move to 7-4 on the season. Trey Anderson led all scorers with 28-points for the Crusaders, but it wasn’t enough in a wire-to-wire win for Foothills Christian.

YASSINE GHARRAM facilitated the Knights offense with six-assist on the evening. Gharram’s leadership on the floor helped Carter-Hollinger and Cherry get to the line more than they have all season. Foothills Christian saw 37-free-throw attempts against the Crusaders, something that hasn’t been a strong suit this season for the Knights.

Foothills doesn’t have much time to rest. The Knights will face off with Westchester in the opening round of the National Division of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic on Wednesday night at 9:05 pm. The Comets are 10-2 on the year with their only losses coming to Clark of Last Vegas and Bishop Montgomery who ranks first in California by a point.
