Hawks teams defeat La Sierra here, there

2018-19 SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN HAWKS BASKETBALL

KEARNY MESA (11-21-2018) – On a night when defense was king, San Diego Christian College romped to a 32-16 halftime lead, easily defeating La Sierra University, 72-60, in the Hawks home opener Tuesday (Nov. 20) at San Diego Mesa College.
SDCC senior Derek Novsek topped the scorers with 19 points and 9 rebounds, as the Hawks (2-3) extended the lead to 62-33 before clearing the bench for the final seven minutes to pummel the Golden Eagles.(1-6).
Junior center Richard Wright added 13 points and 6 boards, Hayden Fredrick (12) and Jared Nyivih (10) also scored in double figures. Both SDCC wins this season have come against La Sierra.
For LSU, which dropped to 0-5 on the road, saw sophomore guard D.J. Everage also share game scoring laurels with 19 points.
San Diego Christian caps its brief 2-game homestand on Monday (Nov. 26), hosting the University of Saint Katherine (San Marcos) at 7 p.m.
Women defeat La Sierra, 60-49
Henriette Gahmig paced the Hawks (5-1) with 12 points, all coming on 3-point bombs, to pace a balanced scoring attack. Five other players tallied at least six points.
For LSU (2-7), senior guard Arianna Sheehy collected a game-best 19 points, going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. However, the rest of her teammates produced a mere 30 points on 14-for-51 shooting (27 percent) Hawks defense forced 26 turnovers.
Like the men’s team, San Diego Christian’s next women’s game is also against Saint Katherine, but it was next Wednesday (Nov. 28) at Grossmont College, starting at 6:30 p.m.
