Oceanside – Wolf Pack senior Alyssa Thornton struck out six over five innings in allowing only a pair of runs and two hits on the day as the West Hills Wolf Pack easily dispatched Mission Vista on Tuesday (Feb. 28) afternoon.

Freshman Maddie Aylesbury (2-4, R, RBI, 2 2B) with the Pack already leading 1-0 would double in Gianna Burgin (3-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) in the second inning to extend the lead to 2-0. The Timberwolves though would come back with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

Burgin would break the deadlock in the third inning as she drove in a pair of runs and in the fourth inning both Samiya Wright (2-2, 2 R, RBI, SB) and Katy Spargo (2-3, R, 3 RBI, 2B) would each drive in runs to give the Pack a 6-2 lead.

West Hills would really put the game away as they pushed across six more runs in the fifth inning which would allow for the game to be called after five innings.

Thornton would pick up her second victory of the season.

“Alyssa Thornton threw another great game for us. She dominated the strike zone.”

Kristina Deal also contributed as she had a pair of hits and stole two bases and scored twice.

West Hills in the convincing win had fourteen hits which included five players with multiple hits. “All-around great offensive effort, with some young kids stepping up in big situations!”

The Wolf Pack improved to 3-0-1 and will next have a home tournament contest against the Eagles of Southwest El Centro on Wednesday slated for a 3:30 pm start.
