EL CAJON -Jaylene Hughes, the state scoring leader as a member of the Mount Miguel Matadors as a freshman last season, will have her scoring records validated following complaints from another school.

CalHiSports, which maintains an array of scores, statistics, records and more, agreed that Hughes’ scoring average of more than 38 points per contest, was valid and no cheating took place.

In oarticular, the scorekeeper for an opposing team noted there was no way Hughes tallied more than 50 points, However, when later pressed, the scored did state that the rest of the <stsdors only collected a single, 2-point bucket.

One of the game referees was later asked about the situation. He explained that the scoreboard operator made no errors, there were no comlaints about the osted score at anyone — coaches, payers orfans — so if thefinal score was accuratemd that Hughes scored all of the team’s points, minus the single basket, her indiviual total was correct.

In addition,Mount Mkguel head coach Jason Hughes — Jaylene’s father — noted that videos of all Matadors ballgames were filmed, with copies given to school administratos. Such practices were requested by CalHiSports on significant marks after a football incident involving Scripps RancH igh.

A Falcons coach was caught padding the statistics of the team’s quarterback — his son — by at least 10 percent per contest ywhen ardage totals were questioned by a pair of San Diego County newspapers covering three Scripps Tanch games. In a late-season contest covering by both papers, reporters each stated the quarterback had 301 yards, but the coach reported 331 yards.

The coach, attempting to gain a college scholarship for his child, reportedly stated this was a common practice.yet was eventually fired by the principal; the move was validated by San Diego City Schools officials.

STOCKTON – CalHiSports.com, the leading authority on high schools sports in the Golden State, announced there may be a problem with the statistics from reigning state scoring champion Jaylene Hughes.

As a freshman at Mount Miguel last season, Hughes averaged 38.7 points per contest, including twice scoring an East County and Grossmont Conference record of 58 points.

Here is what CalHiSports recently posted on the possible problem:

There was another freshman — Jaylene Hughes of Spring Valley Mt. Miguel — who was reported on MaxPreps with a higher scoring average than Smith, but those totals have not been accepted for state record consideration due to questions we have about the stat-keeping. School officials there are more than welcome to give us a call at some point to clear them up. LINK

During the summer,Hughes transferred to Granite Hills and is currently going through a waiting period before becoming eligible.
