Miramar, Palomar top Grossmont Hoops

San Diego Miramar 70, Grossmont College 57

FLETCHER HILLS – The balances scoring attack of Charlie Gehler (18 points) and Markees Williams (17) allowed San Diego Miramar College t stop hostGrossmont COllege, 70-57, in Wednesday’s (Feb.7)Pacific Coast Athletic Confernece men’s basketball game.

Gahler posted 13 of his points in the first half to garb a 7-point lead. The Griffins adjusted, but then Willams took over with 14 of his points in the second half.

The Griffins moved to within four points in the second half behind the bench play of Tyrone Lester, who posted a team-best 12 points, while Diego Sanchez added 11.

However, a 42-28 rebounding advantage for the Jets (14-10 overall, 9-3 PCAC) proved to be the difference. Grossmont is now 4-19 on the season (2-10 PCAC).

Cuyamaca College had the bye.


Palomar 93, Grossmont 46

SAN MARCOS – Fresh off their first conference loss in three seasons, the 8th-ranked Palomar College Comets bounced back todouble-up visiting grossmont College, 93-46, Wednesday (Feb. 7) at the Palomar Dome — the oldest community college facility in San Diego County.

Former Monte Vista High standout Angelina De Leon led Palomar with a agje-best 21 points.

Meanwhile, Palomar teammate Nevaeh Mageo added 20 points, but on just 6-for-16 shootig.

For Grossmont, Janea Wilson posted a team-best 19 points. The total is a career high, topping her 18-point effort against Saddleback backin early December.

Palomar (19-5 overall, 7-1) moves a half-game in frot of idle San Diego Mesa for the Pacific Coast Athletic Association lead. Grossmont fell to 5-11 (2-6 PCAC).
