LAKESIDE – Outhitting the Point Loma Pointers 11-5 the El Capitan Vaqueros easily dispatched them 11-3 on Saturday morning in Coastal Classic tournament action.

The Vaqueros started their scoring early thanks to an error by the Pointers, Alanna Christiaens (1-3, R) grounding out, and Alyssa Fierro (1-3, R, RBI) singling with each leading to runs and a 3-0 lead.

After Point Loma scratched their way back into the game with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning the Vaqueros answered with four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning.

A sacrifice bunt laid down by Kameron McDaniel led to a run, Kylee Frazier (2-2, 2 R, RBI, SB, 3B) drove in a run with a triple, and Aubrey Thorne (1-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB, HR) belted a two-run home run to left field for her third of the season to give them a 7-2 lead.

El Capitan would add four more runs with one in the bottom of the fifth and three in the sixth inning to round out the scoring.

Scoring in the fifth inning was Gwyndolyn Hill (R, 2 SB) who raced home on a passed ball and in the sixth inning Christiaens scored on an error followed by Sofia Simone (3-4, R, 2 RBI, 2B) lacing a triple right field that brought both Fierro and Addison Leone in to score.

Alyssa Cole who started for the Vaqueros would earn the win as she tossed six innings in which she allowed three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out three.

El Capitan with the win evens their record at 10-10-4 overall.
