The Bishop’s 8, Foothills Christian 3
SANTEE – Following five innings of a pitchers’ duel, Foothills Christian and The Bishop’s School suddenly changed course.
In a battle of teams named Knights, the Bishops erupted for six runs on five extra-base hits in the sixth inning, while Foothills Christian could only counter with two runs, allowing the ballclub from La Jolla to take the Coastal League contest, 8-3, from Santee ASA at Town Center Community Park.
After both pitchers survived a difficult first inning, when two walks led to a run for both sides, both offenses struggled.
However, for no particular reason, everyone started gathering hits in the sixth.
Included was two tripls and three doubles by The Bishop’s, starting with a lead triple to deep left field by sophomore third baseman Bailey Brightenburg.
Foothills Christian also connected throughout the ballgame, but at least a half-dozen hard shots turned foul along the left field line, as batters were in front of the pitching by frosh Jessica Yao all afternoon.

The momentum turned in the fourth, when a Foothills Christian runner at third base would’ve scored the go-ahead run, but a diving catch by The Bishop’s center fielder Bella Bravo was good for the third out.
Brightenburg. also converted a sliding grab of a shallow pop fly while going head-first towatd home plate.
For Foothill Christian (3-5 overall, 2-4 league), a trio of batters — center fielder Kenzie Gomez, third baseman Holly Vigil and pitcher Emma Romeka — registered run-scoring singles
Romeka struck out nine TBS batters, but also walked seven. Yao had four Ks, but walked six for “The B’s’ (7-2-1, 2-1).
Liberty Charter 6, San Diego HS 0
ALPINE – Liberty Charter senior pitcher Leah Urias posted her best performance of the season, limiting visiting San Diego HS to just six hits in the Lions’ first victory of the season in a 6-0 decision.
Urias struck out nine Cavers batters without issuing a walk, as San Diego never placed a runner beyond second base.
The Lions 1-6) staked Urias to a 2-0 cushion in the first inning, then continued to increase the lead
The standout on offense was Layla Montgomery, who generated three hits, including a pair of doubles. She also posted an RBI and scored a run.
Meanwhile, sophomore Kady McHenry registered a pair of RBI singles. Freshman Annika Olsen also had a pair of base hits.
San Diego (7-9), which saw a 3-game winning streak snapped, received two hits (including a double) from Diana Martinez.
The Lions will be the final East County school to open league play, not starting Summit League competition until A [r. 17. In the meantime, there will be non-league ballgames with Canyon Crest and San Diego Academy of National City
