CITY WESTERN LEAGUE
PATRICK HENRY 4, OUR LADY OF PEACE 0 – Strong pitching by Patrick Henry senior Zoe Rutherford as she fired a one hit seven inning shutout on Thursday afternoon to pick up the victory and put down the Our Lady Peace Pilots.
Included in the brilliant pitching performance for Rutherford was the fact that she fanned 10 pilot batters.
Offensively the Patriots would go onto help the dominating pitching performance with a run in the bottom of the third inning on a ground ball out by Angelina Mazon that allowed Izzy Ervin to score making it 1-0.
Later in the bottom off the fifth inning still clinging to the 1-0 lead the Patriots again put together some offense as Mazon again came through as she doubled in Ervin, a couple of batters later Adeline McDonald hit a ball that was misplayed by the third baseman allowing Rachel Earner to come in and score which was followed by a sacrifice fly by Riley Teixeira that was deep enough for Mazon to tag up and race home for the last run.
Henry with the victory has now won two games in a row and improves to 10-11 overall and 3-2 in league play and a second place tie with Point Loma while OLP falls to 6-14 overall and 1-4 in league play.
GROSSMONT HILLS LEAGUE
SANTANA 8, EL CAPITAN 3 – Junior Kaitlyn Ruckle led the Santana Sultans offensively as she drove in a pair of runs with a perfect day at the plate as they defeated the El Capitan Vaqueros on Thursday afternoon on the road.
Ruckle, Halee Powell, and Bri Canty all from the bottom of the lineup really picked up the top of the lineup and carry the offense as they combined for six of the team’s seven hits along with driving in four runs and scoring four runs.
The bottom of the lineup would propel Santana to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Powell singled, Canty singled, and Kaylee Lindahl grounded out, each leading to runs scored.
El Capitan though would push back in the bottom of the third inning starting with Kylee Frazier driving in Isabella Farrris, and a couple of batters later with two outs Brynlie Ford would drive in Ciara Bernardini to pull within 3-2.
The Sultans though would answer with three runs in the top of the fourth inning to give them some insurance.
Lindahl would drive in the first run as she grounded out that allowed Kylee Aziz to score, McKenna Miller would hit a ball deep enough for Powell to tag up and race home which was followed by Canty scoring on a passed ball to make it 6-2.
Bella Zuckerman would earn the win for the Sultans as she allowed two runs on seven hits over four innings in which she struck out one.
On the other side Makenna Burton would take the loss for the Vaqueros as she allowed six runs on five hits over four innings in which she walked two and struck out two.
The win by the Sultans moves their overall record to 13-8 and 3-3 in league while the Vaqueros fall to 9-12 overall and 3-3 in league.
NON-LEAGUE
HELIX 13, VALHALLA 3 (5 INN.) – Big day for Helix senior Ta’Tiannah Wright as she tallied three hits in three at-bats that included a fourth inning long ball to help propel the Highlanders to a convincing road win on Thursday over Valhalla.
Leading 1-0 the Highlanders would add to their lead in the top of the third inning on a Nikayla Domingo base hit, Lillianna Benabdeljalil singled in a run, an error led to a run and Neviah Conchas drove in a run.
They would go on to add more in the fourth inning as they scored six runs on six hits which include a two run blast by Wright, Conchas doubled in three runs, and an RBI triple by Lauren Farace rounded things out to make it 11-2.
Valhalla had previously scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning on a ground by Emma Sloan that brought home Liliana Moscoso followed by a ground ball out by Natalia Marco that scored Preslee Fink.
The Norsemen would score later in the bottom of the fifth inning when Sabella Yousif singled in Moscoso.

For Valhalla, Devyn Mack would take the loss as she allowed ten runs on fourteen hits over three and one third innings in which she walked one and struck out one.
