WESTLAKE VILLAGE — Christian High’s opponwnt to determine the CIF Division 2 champion for Southern California was finally determined Friday (June 6), with the finale becoming an all-San Diego Section affair.

The Patriots (24-8-1), which defeated Monache of Porterville, 1-0, on Thursday, will meet Eastlake High of Chula Vista to determine the Southland champion and land a berth in the state final.

The Titans moved their record to an identical 24-8-1 after blanking the host Westlake Warriors, 3-0, in a delayed contest. School official requestede a 2-4hour delay because of excessive travel after playing Tuesday in Bakersfield, then returning home to the (San Diego) South Bay.

After both ballclubs failed to score despite a boarlaod of baserunners in the first inning, Eastlake broke through in the second on a two-out single by senior shortstop Deziree Gomez, the leadofff batter.

That was enough for Titans pitcher Addison Suriano, who struck out five Warriors batters en route to a 5-hit shutout.

The other pair of Eastlake runs came in the seventh, both unearned after a costly two-out error with no one on base opened the floodgates.

The Titans cllected 10 hits against the Warriors, including two from seniors Ryan Pham and MacKenzie Olshenskie (the Titand leader in batting averge; 459), plus juniors Kaili Balajadia and Bryne Grayson.

The Christian-Eastlake contest is slated for 4 p.m. at Roma Dawson Field.

The ballclubs met once previosulty this season, with Xhristian taking a 7-2 decision on March 27 in tournament action.

Senior Kaitlyn Moody drove in three runs against trhe Titans, including a 2-run homer run. Moody is also slated to be the starting pitcher in Saturday’s showdown.

In the North Regional, second-seeded Salinas will take on fourth-seeded Liberty of Brentwood. The Lions upset North top-seed Vaden (Fairfield) in a 17-0 thrashing.
