EL CAJON – Because of different guidelines, criteria and alternate philosophy, there is a split in the voting for one of the Track Athletes of the Year for the Soring 2025 season.

Santana senior Harper Diaz
While Santana senior Harper Diaz was a runaway leader for the girls, the boys were split between the coaches’ selection of Laurence Burston of Helix, since the coaches always choose a senior, while East County Sports named Mount Miguel junior Brandon Arrington — the No. 1 rankedd runner of the 200 meters in California, as the honoree.
The coaches also named Field Athletes of the Year: Kai Brown of Santanam and Lukas Garcia of El Capitan, giving the Sultans a sweep of the awards for girls track.
