EL CAJON – Grossmont Conference standings in fall sports, through Sun.,Sept. 28:

Grossmont Hills League

Among the top three teams in the GHK this season, Granite Hills opened league play by alreadsy facing thw two other contenders, posting 3-game sweeps to take full command.

On Tuesday (Sept. 23), the Eagles whipped Santana, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21.

Senior spiker Khloe Sanchez paced the offense with 11 kills — the lone player on either roster to reach double figures.

Skyler Riley, another senior, added 8 kills, while sophomore Miranda Haisch had 7 pitaways.

Granite Hills received several easy points — in fact, 16 — on service aces. The leader was Mackenna Palmer with 4 service winners, three others had a trio each.

Two days later at Foster Gym in Lakeside, the Eagles swept El Capitan, 25-16, 25-19, 25-22.

Individual state were not posted (as of Sunday morning).

Grossmont will host Steele Canyon on Tuesday (Sept. 30) to determine leadershipin the GVL.

Others

Christian – The Patriotds are 16-6 overall, but were elevated to the tough Western League, starting winless in two matches after falling to a pair of ranked teams: Coronado and Cathedral Catholic.

However, the Pats are East County’s top team, featuring 3-game sweeps of Granite Hills, Santana, Valhalla and West Hills

Foothills Christian – The Purple & Platinum are 11-7 overall, and 3-2 in the 7-team Pacific League, standing fourth behind league leading Classical, then The Rockand Escondido Charter.

Liberty Charter – The Lions of Alpine (2-9 overall) opened Summit League action with a setback to High Tech-Mesa last week.

Luckily, the team played a difficult non-league schedule and figures tofinish in third place entering the CIFSDS playoffs.

Bostonia Global = The Lobos, a second-year program, only plays league matches, opening with a loss to Bonsakk last week. However, the program has improved, taking the Legionnairs to five sets before falling.

River Valley – The Leopards of Lakeside re-started their program this season, opening the campaign with a pair of losses. However, in the team’s Leafgue opener, they went five sets before out-lasting Cristo Rey Academy. (Thanks to the Coyotes — the lsoing side — for still reporting the outcome).
